My grandson, KARL ERICH RESPICIO SALENDA, finally graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts: Directing and Dramaturgy from the University of the Philippines - Diliman!

What was initially scheduled for July 27, 2024 for his College Graduation followed by his University Graduation the next day, was rescheduled due to Typhoon Carina. Lucky enough, the 113th General Commencement Exercises for UP-Diliman on July 28, 2024 pushed through with my daughter, PORTIA PAMELA RESPICIO SALENDA, attending despite the heavy rains in Ilocos Norte during that time.

To be able to join you onstage as a fellow UP-Diliman Graduate wearing your UP Sablay and inabel formal wear at your College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Graduation on August 2, 2024 brings me so much joy and so much pride! The path you have taken may be different which makes me worried about your future at times, but I remain confident in your passion and talent for the theatre stage. It was apparent that, even at an early age, your charisma and urge to perform infront of people would eventually lead you to direct and act for so many productions. Your commitment to volunteer service while interweaving faith and theater is an inspiration.

It is with hope that you, as an Iskolar ng Bayan, embody the bravery and patriotism of those who came before you, and be of service to this nation and its people through your craft.

Over the years, the GIRL SCOUTS OF THE PHILIPPINES (GSP) has proven itself to be an effective institution that molds young girls into the women that they are today. In doing so, the GSP movement does its part in contributing towards nation building with the girl scouts as its foundation.

This commitment is one that I share with my fellow members of the GSP Ilocos Norte-Laoag Council. Coming across those that I have worked with at the Northern Luzon Regional Council and the National Board, knowing that they are still there brings me so much pride and admiration, and relief that the future of the GSP is secure.

In February and June of this year, my batchmates from Class '62 of the Ilocos Norte High School, came to visit Ilocos Norte. All of whom, have been living abroad for more than forty (40) years - Dennis and Minnie in New Jersey, Janu in New York, as well as Emy and Astrid in California. To this day, I have yet to take them up on their invitation to host me when I travel to the United States.

To welcome them back, we had dinner at Asaricha Tropical Beach Resort in Brgy. Estancia, Pasuquin which is owned by a client who resides in Norway. As always, being around my high school batchmates feels like we are young again as we smile and laugh while reminiscing and catching up on each other's lives. I consider myself lucky to have a batch that helps and supports each other, and allows me to take a break.

On March 31, 2024, Easter Sunday, the Soroptimist International-Ilocos Norte Club in partnership with Rio Grande de Laoag Resort Hotel held a thanksgiving celebration coinciding with the resort hotel's 20th Anniversary and the 60th birthday of its General Manager and our Past Club President, Dr. Gloria Caluya.

Children ages 5 to 10 years old, from Barangays Suyo, Sta. Maria and Talingaan in Laoag City were accompanied by their parents and invited to this celebration for entertainment, games and lunch. Afterwhich, sixty (60) food and gifts packs donated by the Soroptimist International-Ilocos Norte Club were distributed to the parents and their children.

It is with hope that we encourage everyone to share their happiness and success with the people around us.

During the celebration of Women's Month in March, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte thru its Population and Gender and Development (PGAD) Office held its annual GAD Congress: Usapang Juana seminars at San Nicolas and Laoag City.

The Gender and Development seminars started in 2013 during the term of SENATOR IMEE MARCOS as Governor with me as her Consultant on Women, and the Gender and Development (GAD) Office.

I have been the Resource Speaker on Republic Act 9262 otherwise known as the "Anti-Violence Against Women & Their Children Act of 2004". Through an open forum, we discuss issues raised and challenges encountered by participants in their respective communities.

This year, I underscored the fact that the participants, who are the Barangay Service Point Officers, are in their own right, leaders in their communities. With their knowledge and experience, they are consulted by residents on relevant issues.

Thank you for joining us in commemorating women in leadership, such as yourself, and making an impact in our communities! To hear you say that you identify as an Ilocana having been raised by an Ilocana was a touching moment. We thank you for your commitment to advancing women's and children's rights through your legislative work in the Senate of the Philippines. And we look forward to working together on providing opportunities for women in the City of Laoag.

The LAOAG CITY SAMAHANG KABABAIHAN SA BARANGAY (SKB) joined the City Government of Laoag in celebration of the Pamulinawen Festival on February 21, 2024. In the afternoon, the SKB PARADE featured each SKB Barangay Chapter's delegation, float, and their candidate for REYNA NG SKB 2024. This was followed by the CORONATION PROGRAM in the evening at the Laoag City Auditorium.

The REYNA NG SKB has been the LAOAG CITY SKB's fundraiser held every three years with the last one being in 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was put on hold until this year. As a non-government organization that does not receive financial assistance from the government or any other organization, we have been self-reliant in generating funds for each SKB Barangay Chapter's projects and activities.

As such, we are grateful for the hardwork that every officer and member has put in, and to all the families, friends and supporters for their generosity. CONGRATULATIONS to the SKB Barangay Chapters, and to the SKB Federation Officers for organizing a successful REYNA NG SKB 2024! I am so proud of you all for keeping the fire burning for the LAOAG CITY SKB!

Celebrating my eldest son PETERJO "PJ" RESPICIO SALENDA's birthday on December 16, 2023 at Escolta in The Peninsula Manila with the Tongco Family. Our families coming together on these occasions are always full of smiles and laughs, and full bellies at the end of every meal.

To our Man of The House, PJ, I am proud of you and your successes in life. In fact, I am even more proud of your humility when you refuse to announce or display those very achievements for everyone to hear and see. I believe in your potential for much more and that great things await you in your future.
