Building a Strong Foundati
on
In order to build a strong house, a strong foundation is needed. There are three key jobs to be done:
1. Get strength from the past – PSME MHC draws from a deep heritage. The knowledge of the past would help strengthen the present. Recognize the wisdom and learn from the chapters “elders”. Regular consultation meetings are being held between PSME MHC President and the elders of the society.
2. Build membership database – PSME MHC has a lot of members. Unfortunately, they are out of reach. The membership database collects the emails and celphones of the members. From zero to 600 as of July 2009. It is continuously growing.
3. Fix the office – push for the facelift of PSME MHC office at Don Lorenzo Building.
5 Pillars
The house has five strong pillars. Uplifting the Mechanical Engineering Profession – to live PSME MHC’ mission, it is composed of the following activities:
A. Career and equipment seminars
B. Encouraging members to attend Conventions and Plant visits
C. Supporting Oath taking of new Mechanical Engineers and PRC Awards
2. Link industry and member – in this very trying times, there are a lot of Engineers which do not have jobs or have lost their jobs. At the same time, companies are also in search of Mechanical Engineers for their operations, especially with the strict implementation of Republic Act 8495 or the Mechanical Engineering Law by the Board of Mechanical Engineering, PRC. PSME MHC connects them by offering free job placements on Newsgear, its newsletter to members. PSME MHC also acts as a bridge to connect industry and the academe.
3. Build fellowship – consistent with its mission to build fellowship and camaraderie among its members, PSME MHC hold fellowship between its members. They also attend activities of other chapters such as Oath Taking and their Anniversary celebrations to widen their network.
4. Be financially self sustaining – in order to make the operations of PSME MHC run, it needs funds. On top of income coming from issuing members’ Certificate of Good Standing (COGS), it holds activities to generate more funds, such as Golf Tourneys and Bingo Socials.
5. Strengthen communication with members – it is important for members to feel the presence of PSME MHC, hence the society has devised various means of communications with members. Through these, the PSME MHC will be revived!
