As the Regional Coordinator, organizing an international moot court competition is not without its challenges. But seeing everyone enthusiastically participate, whether as a mooter, coach, judge, volunteer, or observer, makes it all worth it.

LEYTE LAW SCHOOLS SHINE IN 2025 BAR EXAMINATIONS

When my wife, Atty. Rosalyn Ruth Anuncio-Aquino and I first moved to Leyte in late 2024, our first professional engagement was actually to be law professors. Atty. Roe was appointed as Vice Dean of and professor of Labor Law at the Saint Paul School of Professional Studies-Faculty of Law in Palo, Leyte, while I taught international law and political law. I was recently appointed as Associate Dean of the Leyte Colleges-College of Law where I am also teaching different law subjects.

It is thus a great and proud moment for us to witness the Leyte-based law schools performing so well in the bar exams. While we haven't handled any of the new lawyers (our first batch of students will be taking the 2026 bar exams), it's extremely gratifying to have an opportunity to contribute to the legal education in this region.

Here are the notable performances of Leyte-based law schools:

Leyte Colleges- Top 2 law school in the Philippines for first-time takers (less than 10 examinees)
Western Leyte College of Ormoc City- Top 4 law school in the Philippines for first-time takers (11-50 examinees)
Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation- Top 4 law school in the Philippines for first-time takers AND for all takers (more than 100 examinees).

Over the course of two days in Manila, I participated in a legal workshop organized by the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) to brainstorm strategies to enhance the country's resilience to transnational organized crime.

The workshop included participants from different sectors- judges, prosecutors, private lawyers, executive agencies, the legislature, CSOs and the media.

As GI-TOC's national consultant for the Philippines, it was also a chance for me to learn from our country's best frontliners in battling this global problem.
