Councilor Dennis M. Bacala, Chairperson of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, joined the Clean-Up Drive and Beach Tree Planting Activity held on May 14, 2026, in Barangay Masao as part of the celebration of the โ€œMonth of the Ocean.โ€

The activity was conducted through the collaboration of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Caraga and the Butuan Bay Development Alliance (BBDA), with volunteers and community partners from various sectors participating in the initiative.

The activity aimed to promote environmental protection through coastal clean-up and beach tree planting efforts geared toward maintaining a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment.

During the activity, Bacala delivered the message of City Mayor Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun, emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment, oceans, and natural resources. In the Mayorโ€™s message, Butuan was highlighted as a riverine and maritime city whose history, culture, and identity remain closely connected to its waters and the legacy of the Balangay boats.

The message also recognized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, local stakeholders, barangays, and volunteers in protecting and restoring coastal and marine resources for future generations.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Butuan showed support for the new City Director of the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) during the Turn-Over of Office Ceremony held on May 15, 2026, at the Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center.

Among those present were City Vice Mayor Reynante B. Desiata and Councilor Dennis M. Bacala, Chairperson of the Committee on Public Order and Safety, together with City Mayor Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun and other local officials.

The ceremony marked the official assumption of PCOL Richie M. Yatar as the new City Director of the BCPO, succeeding outgoing Acting City Director PCOL Restituto P. Lacano Jr. The activity was presided over by PBGEN Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 13.

During the program, awards and recognition were presented to Lacano for his service as Acting City Director. The ceremony also included the reading of relief and designation orders, along with the symbolic turn-over of office property and inventory book, signifying the formal transfer of command and responsibilities within the BCPO.

The SP continues to support efforts that help maintain peace and order and strengthen cooperation between the city government and law enforcement agencies in Butuan City.
