Why did Lucifer fall??
Short and simple an answer as possible:
Because Lucifer rebelled against God’s plan for the eternal progression of His spirit children.
Lucifer wanted to force every person to follow all of God’s commandments.
A bunch of people disagreed with the above sentence, so I'll try to clarify.
Lucifer's plan was to take away man's agency and force everyone to return to Heaven. As he would have “saved” every spirit, he wanted the glory and exaltation of God and to sit on His throne.

There would therefore be no need of a savior and redeemer. As everyone would return to heaven, Lucifer wanted to have all the glory and honor due to Heavenly Father.
Jesus agreed to God’s plan of salvation and volunteered to leave his Heavenly Father and come to earth as a mortal. He agreed to suffer for the sins of all mankind and to be lifted up on the cross. As he was following God's plan, He said the glory and honor would be God’s, not His.
Christ was chosen. Lucifer, along with 1/3 of all the spirits, rebelled and were evicted from the presence of God. Lucifer and his followers have since been trying to thwart God’s plan by tempting as many of God’s spirit children, his brothers and sisters, as possible to become unworthy of salvation and redemption.

EDIT
IF all of those who say I'm wrong and say Licifer actually fell because of pride, PLEASE re-read my answer. He wanted to have God's glory and place in Heaven and wanted to sit on His throne.
Isn't that a prime example of PRIDE?????
