According to RPP Noticias, on April 16, the Peruvian National Police detained a 46-year-old U.S. citizen, identified as Catlin Marie, in the Chachuar sector of Urubamba (Cusco region). The intervention took place after authorities verified that she was subject to an active INTERPOL Red Notice issued by Honduras.

She is required by Honduran authorities for the alleged crime of aggravated and habitual family abuse. Based on this international arrest request, Peruvian police proceeded with her detention under existing cooperation mechanisms.

In the course of the police actions, a critical development followed: hours after her arrest, officers located her two minor daughters, aged 10 and 12, at a local educational institution in the area. Fugitive Arrested in Peru After 18 Years for Murder of German Wife

The Peruvian National Police captured a man accused of k!lling his German wife, Aune Hartmann, in Puno, who had been a fugitive since 2008.

According to La República, the arrest took place in Sicuani, Cusco, as a result of an intelligence operation. The man was listed among the most wanted, with a reward of 20,000 soles.

The detainee will be transferred to Puno to face the corresponding legal proceedings after more than 18 years on the run.

Event:​ Peru will hold general elections on Sunday, April 12, 2026. There may be an increase in political activity, campaign events, and public demonstrations before, during, and after the dates of the general elections and any subsequent runoff elections. Elections are a routine part of the democratic process; however, they can sometimes come with temporary disruptions such as increased police presence, traffic congestion, and/or transportation delays. For this reason, it is important to remain aware of your surroundings and take simple steps to reduce risk during this period.

We encourage U.S. citizens living in Peru to take a few basic preparedness steps at home. Ensure you have essential household supplies such as food, water, and any necessary medications for several days, and keep mobile devices charged in case communication updates are issued.

Avoid large crowds, political rallies, and demonstrations. If you are near a demonstration or encounter civil unrest, prioritize your personal safety by moving away from the area and seeking a secure location such as a nearby business or your residence. Avoid confrontations, remain calm, and depart the area when you feel it is safe to do so.
