Just a little reminder that daylight saving ends this Sunday, 5 April 2026. At 3:00am, clocks go back one hour.

For many of us, that means an extra hour of sleep, brighter mornings, and the feeling that winter is slowly on the way. It is also a good time to check the clocks around the house, update appliances that do not change automatically, and get ready for darker evenings.

A simple seasonal reminder can also help: check your smoke alarms while you are adjusting your clocks. Fire and Emergency New Zealand is encouraging people to use the daylight saving change as a prompt to make sure smoke alarms are working properly.

Stay safe, enjoy the extra hour, and do not forget to turn your clocks back before bed on Saturday night.
