Navigating the skilled work experience look-back window for New Zealand immigration can be confusing. If you're claiming 2 years of skilled work experience under a pathway, INZ looks back from your invitation to apply date. You can only claim experience gained within the previous 4 years. Experience outside this period won't count. Your skilled wage dates, which determine your wage threshold, have a separate look-back period and are assessed from your Expression of Interest (EOI) date. It's crucial to know these dates to ensure your application is valid.

Step 2: Research the move properly.

While your Pathway Assessment is being reviewed, use the time to explore whether life in New Zealand makes sense for you and your family.

Our free Discovery Modules help you work through the bigger questions:
• Why do you want to move to New Zealand?
• What could the lifestyle, opportunities and trade-offs look like?
• What could it cost your family to live here?
• What could you potentially earn?
• Is there demand for your skills?
• Is this the right move for your family?

The purpose is not to convince you to move.

It is to help you make an informed decision before committing to such a big change.

A successful move starts with more than a visa pathway, it starts with knowing whether New Zealand is the right fit for your future. 💙

Hey everyone, I'm Brett from Soft Landing NZ. Des and I moved here almost four years ago, and we're passionate about helping fellow immigrants navigate their journey. Thinking of handling your New Zealand immigration application yourself to save money? I get it. But be warned: misinterpreting policy could cost you thousands. My advice? Use the resources available, but always double-check with a licensed immigration advisor to confirm your pathway is correct. Don't throw away $6,450 on a residency application because of a simple misunderstanding. It's better to invest in expert advice upfront than to face costly rejections later.

I'm seeing more job offers coming through now than just a couple of months ago – the market is definitely changing. If your profession requires registration, like plumbing, electrical, teaching, or engineering, don't wait to get a job before starting that process. Employers often require it upfront. To seriously make the move to New Zealand, focus on being market-ready. Get your registration sorted now, have everything prepared, and be ready to go because things are evolving fast.

Thinking about moving to New Zealand and looking for a job? Even from offshore, you can start building crucial connections months in advance. LinkedIn is your absolute best friend right now for connecting with people in your industry. It takes serious planning, but by nurturing these relationships now, you won't be starting from scratch when opportunities arise in the new financial year. I'm optimistic the job market will improve soon, but proactive networking is key. Let's approach this job hunt like a marathon, not a sprint.

I used to see LinkedIn profiles as just digital CVs, but that's not the whole story. You have creative license to showcase your achievements, not just your duties. Instead of listing what you did daily, highlight what you *accomplished*. Did you boost performance by 10%? Quantify it! Make your profile stand out by focusing on impactful results. It's about showing your value.

Step 1: Start with clarity.

Before spending too much time, money and energy planning a move to New Zealand, it helps to understand one important question:

Could there be a potential visa pathway for you?

Your personal circumstances, skills, work experience and family situation all matter. What may be possible for one person may not be the right route for another.

That is why the first step is our free Pathway Assessment.

It is designed to help you understand whether there may be a pathway worth exploring, before you make major decisions around jobs, schools, housing or relocation.

You do not need to have your whole plan figured out yet.

Start by getting clarity on your possible visa pathway. 💙

Deciding whether to use an immigration agent or handle your move to New Zealand yourself is a huge decision, and it often comes down to cost and complexity. I know firsthand how challenging it can be, especially when considering residency applications. Personally, using an immigration agent was a lifesaver for us. The stress of moving, the sheer volume of paperwork, and the emotional rollercoaster were immense. Having Des in our corner made a world of difference, especially during times of uncertainty with visa processes and delays. It was a true blessing not to face it alone.
