Admission Requirements
For National Diploma (ND)
You must have sat for the 2026 JAMB UTME and scored 100 or above.
You must have changed your institution to Adamawa State College for Legal Studies, Yola.
You must have at least four (4) credit passes in SSCE, including English Language or Literature in English. Results from two sittings are accepted.

❎For Diploma Programmes
You must have at least four (4) credit passes in SSCE, including English Language. Two sittings are accepted.

For Advanced Diploma in Law
You must already possess a Diploma in Law or a related qualification.
You must also have at least four (4) credit passes in SSCE, including English Language or Literature in English.

❎How to Apply
ND Applicants
No online application form is required.
Applicants should attend the Screening/Post-UTME starting from 10 November 2026 after paying a screening fee of ₦2,000.
Diploma Applicants
Visit the admission portal: clsyola.admissions.cloud.

Complete the application form, upload the required documents, print the registration slip, and submit it at the college.

I have been seeing what is happening on social media concerning the case between Ordinary President and Maryam.⚖️⚖️

Let me explain the legal position

In law, when someone believes that another person has made statements that damaged their reputation (defamation), the person affected has the right to seek legal remedy through the court.

However, the court is the only place where the truth of the matter can be determined. Both parties have the right to present their evidence and arguments before a judgment is made.

An apology from the person accused may help in settling the matter, but it does not automatically cancel a legal case unless the parties agree or the court decides accordingly

Everyone should understand that freedom of expression comes with responsibility. What we say or publish publicly can have legal consequences.

Let the law take its course, and let everyone remain peaceful. Any misunderstanding or dispute should be handled through the proper legal process and respectful dialogue.

I also appreciate the apology from Ordinary President regarding what happened. Apologising is a sign of maturity and can help promote peace and reconciliation.

Everyone should avoid insults and unnecessary arguments on social media. Let us respect the law and maintain peace.

in Nigeria, if a person pays for medical treatment or services at a hospital or by a doctor, and it turns out that there was negligence or a mistake made by the healthcare provider which resulted in the death or harm of the patient, the law allows the patient or their family to file a lawsuit or claim compensation in court.

❎Reasons for Filing a Lawsuit:

📌Negligence:
If a doctor or hospital commits an error or negligence in their treatment, it is considered a wrongful act under the law. In such a case, the person who paid for the service has the right to take legal action to seek compensation.

📌Medical Mistakes:
If there is a medical mistake or failure to provide proper care that leads to harm or death, the law allows the patient or their family to file a lawsuit for compensation or hold the healthcare provider accountable..

📌Protecting the Patient’s Rights:
In such cases, Nigerian law protects the rights of the patient by allowing them to seek legal redress through the courts, either for compensation or to seek justice for the harm done due to improper treatment

❎Steps to Take:
If someone wishes to file a complaint about negligence or a medical mistake, they can consult a lawyer to pursue legal action in court.

If it's proven that the doctor or hospital made a mistake that caused death or injury, the law in Nigeria allows for compensation or legal repercussions against the healthcare provider.

In Nigeria, many people face such situations, especially when accused of committing a crime and arrested. ⚖️⚖️

This happens in cases involving serious crimes or allegations of obtaining confidential information, among other offenses, including data collection or financial crimes.

❎Here are some scenarios when a person might be detained in a cell before being taken to court:

🔴Security-related offenses: In cases involving allegations of crimes related to terrorist organizations, economic crimes, or national security, sometimes a person may be detained for a longer period if there are urgent reasons or if they have been arrested based on the accusations.

I🔴nvestigation or evidence gathering: If an investigation into a crime is underway or there is evidence being gathered that may lead to a formal charge, those accused may remain in a cell until the allegations are resolved

🔴Detaining persons without presenting evidence: If someone is detained for failing to provide evidence or failing to verify the actions they are accused of, this could happen in some cases.

🔴Judicial processes: In certain situations, especially if a person has a response or legal remedy, they may remain detained while awaiting the resolution of their case, particularly in customary or less serious offenses.

Generally, if the crime is minor or less severe, the duration of detention before court proceedings won't be significant.

However, if the crime is serious or additional evidence or investigations are required, the period the person stays in the cell could be extended.

However, it is required by the law that a person must not be detained for more than 24 to 48 hours without being brought before a court.

If this does not happen, it could lead to a ruling of illegal detention without trial.

CAN A POLICE OFFICERS FORCE YOU TO THE STATION JUST FOR REFUSING A PHONE SEARCH OR QUESTIONS?

Many people fear that if they stand their ground on their rights, an officer will say, "Get in the car, we are going to the station." Here is what you need to know about the law:

❎ Reasonable Grounds for Arrest ⚖️
Before an officer can legally take you to the station, they must suspect you of committing a specific crime.

Refusing to show your private messages or declining to answer personal questions like "Where are you going?" is NOT a crime under Nigerian law.

❎. The Right to Know Why
Under Section 35(3) of the Constitution, anyone who is arrested has the absolute right to be informed immediately of the reason for their arrest, in a language they understand.

❎. Dealing with "Follow Us to the Station"
If an officer insists you enter their vehicle, ask them politely:

"Officer, am I under arrest? If I am, please what is the specific offense I am being charged with?"

❎❎ Wisdom for the Road (How to Handle This):
If the officer insists on taking you to the station despite you having done nothing wrong, follow these steps to stay safe:

📌Do Not Resist Physically: Even if the arrest is unlawful, do not struggle with an armed officer. Resisting can give them a reason to use force or charge you with "Resisting Arrest" or "Assaulting an Officer."

📌Notify Family/Lawyer: Before you get into the vehicle, or as soon as you can, call a family member or lawyer. Tell them your exact location, the name/unit of the officers, and which station they are taking you to.

📌The Right to Silence: Once you get to the station, do not write or sign any statement without the presence of your lawyer or a person you trust.

📌Stay Calm and Respectful: Often, this tactic is used to intimidate you into offering a bribe. When they see you are calm, knowledgeable, and have notified people of your location, they are much more likely to let you go.
