_"It amounts to an abandonment of responsibilities should the Police fail to provide security for the conduct of the local government elections in Rivers State, as this may lead to chaos and breakdown of law and order, which is the primary duty of the Police to prevent. The Inspector General of Police and his subordinates are duty bound to ensure the observance of the oath they all swore, to uphold the provisions of the constitution and all laws and carry out their duties without fear or favour, affection or ill-will. Sections 4 and 5 of the Police Act, 2020 mandatorily provide that the Police must provide security for every person and protect lives and properties, and not to create an environment of insecurity."_

The Court of Appeal has settled this issue in the case of F.R.N.v.Ozekhome (2021) 9 NWLR (Pt 1782)448 ratio one.

*On Right of legal practitioner to fees for services rendered and whether bound to ask client source of money used to pay such fees* -

"A legal practitioner is entitled to his fees for professional services rendered and such fees cannot be rightly labeled as proceeds of crime. Further, it is not a requirement of the law that a legal practitioner would go into inquiry before receiving his fees from his client, to find out the source of the fund from which he would be paid. In this case, there was no evidence on record at the time the money was paid to the respondent’s chambers to show that the money was from the proceeds of unlawful activities. Therefore, the trial court rightly refused to hold that the money was from unlawful activities"

*PRESS RELEASE: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PASSING OF DR. JUDE EZEGWUI*

CLASFON is saddened to announce the passing of our very dear brother, a past National Assistant Secretary and past Chairman of Enugu Branch, Dr. Jude Ezegwui who passed on in the early hours of Thursday the 22nd day of August 2024.

Our dear brother,
Dr. Jude Ezegwui was a vibrant member and leader who continued to play a strong supportive role in the Fellowship and anchored the first plenary session at our just concluded national conference at Abuja on 8th August 2024.

The news of his sudden demise remains a rude shock and understandably one that is hard to believe.

As people of faith, we urge brethren to take comfort and solace in the fact that our brother knew the Lord and that though his leaving is painful, we know that he is asleep in the Lord.

We urge brethren to not only uphold members of Dr. Ezegwui's immediate and extended families in your prayers during this difficult time. But to go the extra mile of extending heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to them as we await further details regarding the arrangements for his burial.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen

STOP FOOLING YOURSELF

Tega grew up in Warri. He studied law in London.

After his studies and Call to the Bar several years ago when NITEL ruled our lives like a an arrogant collosus, he decided to come back to Warri, because he could be a big boy in Waffi City. So he opened his new law office, "OGHENETEGA CHAMBERS."

The first day, he saw a man coming up to his office and decided to make a big impression. As the man came to the door, he pretended to be on the landline phone and gestured to the man to take a seat.

Tega said while on the phone: ___

"No! Absolutely not! You tell those clowns in New York that I am not traveling all the way to that side to settle the case for less than a million bucks".

"Yes!

The Appeal Court has agreed to hear the case _de novo_ next week. In fact if not for the fact that His Lordship was very impressed with me he would have adjourned the matter _sine die_ .

l will be handling the primary argument and my juniors in chambers will provide support."

"Okay. Alright...

Give the Attorney General my regards."
And.......Tega smiled.... The visitor sat patiently as Tega gave out instructions on phone.

Finally, he put down the telephone and said: "I'm sorry for the delay, but as you can see, I'm very busy.
What can I do for you?"

The man said: "I from NITEL and I come to connect your land phone because e no dey work, Sir."

And thank God sir, say your case no die.
