Dear Nigerian parents, asking your child 'Have you eaten'? is no apology. You are not weak by telling your child that you are sorry. It actually shows confidence and capability in your parenting skills.
Here are some reasons why you should say SORRY to your children when you have offended them;

1. You validate their feelings, which is a very important thing to do for their emotional health.
2. You are teaching them by example to be responsible for their own wrongdoing. Owning up to wrong doing amounts to making restitution.
3. You build confidence in your children by apologising to them. You cannot have your children feeling that they are always wrong no matter what.
4. By apologising, you teach them to be wary of people who don't acknowledge their wrongdoing. This will save them from predators when they become adults.
5. It gives you an opportunity to communicate with your children. People are generally more vulnerable after genuine apologies are tendered so they are more likely to be vulnerable with you because you showed vulnerability first by apologising.
Do you struggle to apologize to your children? The advantages far outweigh the blow your ego takes if you apologise to them.
Why don't you practice it from today?

No matter how kind you are, you need to understand that not everyone who seems to be in need actually wants to be helped.
Narcissistic people are master manipulators and will do anything to get you under their control. Always remember that whatever they do is aimed to gain control of another person because being in control temporarily fills the void in their soul.
Where a narcissist senses that you are independent and love your personal pace, he or she will become scarce just to get you to run after him or her.
If they sense you love to help people out, they will pretend to be needy in order to have you at their beck and call.
Remember, for the narcissist, everything is about control. They will directly or indirectly do anything to get you under their control.

For a child who has suffered sexual molestation, the abuser is mostly someone whom the parents trust with the child.
He or she then feels conflicted about reporting the abuser to someone for some or all of the following reasons;
1. Shame
2. Guilt
3. Fear
4 .The need to protect the abuser
5. Trauma Bonding
Do you know someone who was sexually abused as a child? You can help the person by showing him or her empathy as opposed to blaming them by asking :
👉🏾why didnt you say something earlier?
👉🏾Are you sure you didn't enjoy it?
👉🏾Just let it go. It happened a long time ago.
👉🏾Why do you want to break up a family?
👉🏾This is a family matter.

Most victims of narcissistic abuse have a history of childhood trauma.
When children don't get the love and validation that they need from their parents, they begin to look for external validation from strangers.
Have you met that lady who is jumping from one relationship to the other and is probably labelled a slut? She is only trying to fill a void within herself where her parents failed to. The down side is that it leaves her vulnerable for predators because she unconsciously yearns for the love she never gets.
This is the reason people from troubled homes often say their spouses never exhibited .
Physical abuse is often preceded by emotional abuse. How then can a person identify emotional abuse from a stranger when that is what he or she has experienced from birth from parents?
Do you come from a troubled home? You need to heal.

As we receive our first case of a woman sexually abusing a female child, parents and caregivers kindly note how to get our children to talk to us when abused by doing the following as compiled by Ekemini Anaki Arahson.

👉🏾By providing a healthy home environment and building confidence in our children.
👉🏾Don't shut your child down in the name of "respect your elders".
👉🏾Don't force your child to have a relationship with an adult he or she doesn't like. If your child says "i don't like this person", respect their feelings.
👉🏾Raising a child in a toxic/abusive home environment is synonymous with a child in a war zone. They will never trust you enough to confide in you if that is their experience.
👉🏾Paedophiles have a type. They prey on children whose parents or primary care givers are not attentive. How much attention do you pay to your child?
👉🏾Teach your children sexually protective behaviours. Help them understand the uses of their various body parts as well as names. Dont nick name a private part. Paedophiles do that and it co fuses the child.
👉🏾Beware of that your friend or husband's friend who is "very fond of your pre pubescent child". Don't encourage unnecessary unsupervised gifts and outings from adults. Chances are that your child might be targeted for grooming.
👉🏾Ndi my wife, my husband etc. Stopeeeet. Teach your children to be suspicious of people like these.
