*Psalm 45: Words of Beauty*

Psalm 45:1 Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The strength of your words is a reflection of the strength of your heart. The beauty in your words reflects the state of beauty in your heart. Just like a preacher rightly said: your word is the easiest way of revealing your personality. Your word is you. Some people speak words that cannot edify the hearer. The kingdom of God is a kingdom of words. Through words, we proclaim the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Through words we embrace the fellowship of prayer. Through words we engage in spiritual warfare. And through words we proclaim our victorious testimonies. In God's kingdom, words are very powerful.

The book of Psalm is a reflection and collection of Psalms and songs that were beautifully composed by kings, prophets, musicians and instrumentalists. Whenever you reflect on each verse, you will see a careful expression of God's beauty and glory. Without doubts, the writers of these Psalms, are people with beautiful hearts and minds. It takes a beautiful heart to write a beautiful poem about God. These Psalmists focuses their minds on the good things that they have seen and received from the Lord. Even when they listened to what God did to their ancestors in the past, they also proclaimed God's praise through a beautiful Psalm.

The Psalmist declares: "Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet." While most people hearts are being stirred with bitterness, worries and sadness, it is a good thing for one's heart to be stirred with beautiful words. It is very easy to know someone whose heart is stirred with beautiful words. The contents of their statements is full of words with edification. There are people, whenever they communicate with you, it will be like you have spoken with God or directly with an angel. There are some, whenever you hear them speak, it will be full of anxiety, doubt, pain and fear, as if you have encountered the devil himself.

Today, think and reflect: what stirs your heart before you speak? Does your words reflects God's beauty and glory? Those who hear you speak, do they become edified? Be careful of your words. Your personality cannot be separated from the content of your utterances. When you are known for ugly and dirty words, people will avoid you like a plague. When you are known for words of beauty, people will always flock around you. Begin today by describing God with your best words. Then speak beautifully to yourself. Look out to those around you today, and speak beautiful words into their lives. May your words take expression in their lives today and always. Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, beautiful God, glorious King. Words are never enough to describe your awesomeness. Our of the abundance of my heart, I ascribe my eulogies to you my Lord and King. You are beautiful beyond description. You are too marvelous for words. You are wonderful beyond human comprehension. Majesty, we exalt You our king. Let my heart resonate a beautiful poem of your praise. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: A Prayer In Time Of Distress (2)*

Psalm 44:23-26 Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Get up! Do not reject us forever. Why do you look the other way Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression? We collapse in the dust, lying face down in the dirt. Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love.

Have you ever experienced a distressing situation in your life where it appears like God has turned his back on you? Have you experienced a life threatening situation and all you have to do was to scream at the heavens to arise quickly and come to your aid? Yes, at times, it happens in our journey in life. Whenever such things happen, people will easily judge us as if we were living in sins that attracted such distressing yoke upon us. But the reality is that, you can still be actively working under God's obedience and still be found in a distressing situation. This is why we must never judge or condemn people who are passing through distressful hardships in life.

The disciples of Jesus encountered a life threatening storm that almost wrecked their lives. One day, Jesus constrained his disciples to enter a ship and travel to the other side. In the middle of the sail, there arose a great storm that tossed the ship in the middle of the sea. The disciples tried all they could to breast the waves but they couldn't. While they were striving against the waves, Jesus was in the innermost part of the ship sleeping with his head on a pillow. The disciples screamed at his presence and asked for his intervention otherwise they will perish in the river.

Jesus arose from his sleep, stood up and stretched his hands to waves and storm and said: peace be still, and everything become calm. It is very important to state here that the disciples were not working in disobedience when the storm came. They were working in obedience to the request of Jesus for them to travel to the other side. Yet, in their obedience they came in contact with a distressing storm that almost ended their lives. Sometimes, the faithful pass through the fire and swords, not because they prayed for it, neither is it because they are working in disobedience. God leads the righteous through the valley and shadows of death.

When you are in distressing situation, you must learn this prayer of the Psalmist and also do what the disciples did. We must pray the Lord to wake up. God does not sleep nor slumber. This wake up call implies to grant us our needed attention. We must also pray the Lord should arise to our aid. When the majesty stands, all his subjects must take a bow. The moment Jesus stood, the waves and storms were already alerted to bow before him. This day, may the Lord arise in the middle of your distresses. All your distressess will bow to His supremacy. Hold on, don't give up. The attention you seek is receiving the treatment it deserves. Shalom.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, the Psalmist declares, in my distress, I cried to the Lord and the Lord answered me. O Lord wake up, don't turn your back on me and my family. Arise and help me. Just like the centurion, I ask for just a word from you and I know everything will be settled. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: A Prayer In Time Of Distress*

Psalm 44:23-26 Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Get up! Do not reject us forever. Why do you look the other way Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression? We collapse in the dust, lying face down in the dirt. Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love.

If a generation has ever had the desire to pray this kind of prayer, it would be the desire of the Christians in Nigeria today. The wave of Christian persecution that is ongoing in Nigeria today is so intense and unprecedented. The focus of the world has been tuned into the senseless persecution that is ravaging Nigeria and the best way to caption it was to term it "Christian genocide." For some years now, we have lost counts of the number of churches that have been destroyed. We cannot count the number of worship services that was interrupted by the process of attacks. In Kwara in 2025, a church that was broadcasting live worship service, immediately started broadcasting a live attack in the Church because of the invaders that disrupted the process of worship.

The number of Pastors, evangelists and missionaries that have been killed are too numerous to count. The amount of church valuables that have been destroyed cannot be estimated. Many Christians have been taken into hostages. Some that were kidnapped who could afford their exorbitant ransome fees, got their release after traumatic experience. Some got their ransomed paid but could not come out alive. Some who could not afford their ransome, were either killed or still kept in captivity. This ugly wave of terrorism and persecution has become almost a resident evil in the land.

In the face of these persecutions, the eyes of the Church is fixed on God in prayers. A careful reflection into this Psalm, is a revelation of the prayers of the church in Nigeria. When we look into the events happening in Nigeria, it will appear like God has turned His back on the people. We must pray the prayer of the Psalmist that says: "Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Get up! Do not reject us forever. Why do you look the other way Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression? We collapse in the dust, lying face down in the dirt. Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love."

Today, we need God's intervention in every aspect of our Nation's life. We need God to interfere in the spread of Christian persecution and hostage taking. We need God to preserve the lives of those who come to church to worship him. We need God to stop the spread of societal evils and immorality in Nigeria. The reality about our state is that, the government and her policies have failed and proven ineffective. The military has been compromised and overwhelmed. The only hope of the common man is to seek the intervention from God. May the Lord hear the prayer and cries of our distress and grant us the relief that is anticipated in Jesus' name, Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, we lift our voices to you in prayer. Turn your eyes upon us and see our distresses. Deliver us from the scourge of persecutions. Bring relief to the trauma that has bedevilled our souls. Those that are still in the captivity of the enemies, may they experience their freedom. Have mercy upon us and heal our land. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: The Cost of Faith*

Psalm 44:22 But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.

There is a consumer version of Christianity that has weakened the biblical belief systems that Jesus laid down for the church. Christians of today are no longer balanced in their theological disposition about the ideal Christian life. If you should ask an average Christian why is he/she practicing Christianity, he will list thousands of benefits that he has received from the Lord. Which sums up the fact that, one is following Jesus mainly because of the benefits. When the evidence of blessings and breakthroughs are not seen, there is every tendency for people to doubt and question your faith.

In today's churches, the doctrine of persecution and suffering for the sake of the gospel is taken as a curse. When people suffer for the sake of the gospel, even members of the church will begin to cast judgement of condemnation on them. Ideally, the gospel is balanced between blessings and trials, persecution and rewards. You cannot desire the crown and despise the cross. Infact, from the day you choose to become a Christian, you have officially subscribed to persecution because the people and systems of this world will never accommodate your Christianity. They will do everything within their powers to frustrate anyone who is a follower of Jesus.

The Bible has already set the template for the price of our faith. From the Old Testament, we saw many righteous men and women being faced with varying degrees of persecutions. Jesus himself was not spared. From his birth to death, there were severe persecutions. As if that is not enough, his own disciples were not spared. All the disciples suffered hardship in the hands of different emperors. Some were beaten, stripped naked in public places, arrested and imprisoned. Almost all of them were martyred. When you ask the disciples to tell you why they believe in God, they will simply show their scars.

The faith we are enjoying today did not come easy to get to us. Many were persecuted to death for the faith to get to us today. We must also be willing to bear the price of persecution to at least preserve this gospel and hand it over to the next generation. The Psalmist declares that: "But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep." What persecution can you boldly say that you are enduring for the sake of Christ? Do you have scars as evidence of what you have suffered because of Christ? Always remember that Christianity is a balance between the cross and the crown. Embrace the cross today. Experience the crown that comes with it. Shalom.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, give me the grace to endure every trial, temptations and persecution that is coming across my way as a believer. Grant me evidence of my rewards for serving you. Grant me also the scars as evidence of what I suffered and endured in following you. Thank You Father. Amen.

*Psalm 44: God Knows Every Secret*

Psalm 44:20-21 If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread our hands in prayer to foreign gods, God would surely have known it, for he knows the secrets of every heart.

It is so funny to see people engage in some fe**sh rituals, believing that it is a secret. You can only hide your idolatory from man, you cannot hide it from God. Even if you travel from your city into a remote village that cannot be captured by GPRS, yet, God sees you in your engagement with fe**sh rituals. When many church goers wants to stain their hands with idol worship, they will look for an unfamiliar location, where no one could recognize their true identity. When some persons have purchased an idol, they will build a secret room or wardrobe in their homes where such idols can be hidden outside the knowledge of people.

In the neighborhood where I grew up as a teenager, our house was located very close to a church as well as a native doctor's house. I had an observation that taught me a lesson. I discovered that the number of people brought by motor cycle to the church premises was always increasing especially at early hours in the morning when people have gone to their respective locations of work and business. Despite many person alighting at the church premises, the church will still be empty because there is no worship service going on. One day, I decided to watch out the turn of events. I discovered that the people who alight at the church premises, passes through the side of the church and enter into the native doctor's house secretly with a feeling of being unsuspected and unnoticed.

One thing is sure, if an earthly man like me can discover their secret, deceits and self deception, then how much more about God? When you forsake His ways, He knows. When you swear your allegiance to another god, He knows. When you are now engaged in idolatory, He is aware. You cannot hide anything away from God. What you call a secret is like a show in Heaven"s theatre. This is why whenever God looks into our secret desire, He simply laughs. There are many ministers today who are paying secret obeisance to different cukt groups and idols. They come out on Sunday morning neatly dressed without any suspicion that they are involved in any idolatory. The Lord who sees in secret recognizes them. Friends, God knows every secret. If you have fallen from faith, don't hide it as a secret, instead reveal it and let God take charge over the situation. God knows every of your secrets. Confess it to him and enjoy a victorious life. Shalom.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, deliver me from a life of deception. May I not be involved in idolatory at any circumstance. May I never swear allegiance to idols whether in secret or in open. As darkness does not mix with light, may I never have fellowship with idols. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: Stay Faithful Through The Trials*

Psalm 44: 17-18 All this has happened though we have not forgotten you. We have not violated your covenant. Our hearts have not deserted you. We have not strayed from your path.

There are many believers who are plastic in nature. When a little trial comes their way, they break easily. They have little perseverance or endurance when it comes to being faithful. Any little storm will sweep them off their feet. I have discovered something fascinating about the evangelism of today. We are no longer evangelizing those who are unsaved because they have never heard or accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. We are now witnessing to those who have been in Christ but fell out of their relationship with Jesus because they couldn't endure a trial or persecution that came to them.

I have heard so many stories why people fell outside faith in God. Someone said since she has been following Jesus, she was enduring hunger and hardship with no help for her needs. But when she decided to go the other way, she is now eating in plenty with many to give to the needy. Some left the faith because they couldn't endure the place of waiting for fruitfulness. Just like Abram they decided to go the way of Hagar and got what they desired. Some got desperate in their search for job, contract, promotion and generally to get rich. It was like trusting on the pathway of God will not deliver to them what they desired. So, they left God and decided to take it on their own terms.

When the Lord handed over the Israelites to the captivity of the Babylonians, for a period of 70 years, there were still men and women of Israel who persevered and endured the discipline of the Lord. They did not turn away from Yahweh by accepting the enticing offers from the Babylonians. They did not contaminate their souls by bowing to the idols of Babylon. Yet, all through these years of captivity, their faithfulness and loyalty to Yahweh was unalloyed. The sons of Korah described as: "All this has happened though we have not forgotten you. We have not violated your covenant. Our hearts have not deserted you. We have not strayed from your path."

Child of Grace, what is your disposition to trials and temptations? Are you like those believers who will stop coming to church just because of what they are passing through? Are you part of those believers who stopped serving in their duty posts just because of a trial before them? No true son denounces his home because of family crisis. True sons endure to the end of the crisis. If you are a member of God's family, then no trial will be able to stop you from being faithful. Let me conclude with Romans 8:35-39: Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, give me the grace to be faithful in the face of trials and temptations. Grant me the endurance and perseverance that I need to see the end of my trials. Don't let any condition in my life sever my relationship with you. I affirm today in great faith that nothing will separate me from the Love of God through Christ Jesus my Lord. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: Cast Aside (3)*

Psalm 44:13-16 You let our neighbors mock us. We are an object of scorn and derision to those around us. You have made us the butt of their jokes; they shake their heads at us in scorn. We can’t escape the constant humiliation; shame is written across our faces. All we hear are the taunts of our mockers. All we see are our vengeful enemies.

When the Lord cast aside a people, they will become an object of joke and mockery. Everything about them will become comical. Their enemies will use them as a sort of sport and entertainment. When you study the life of Samson, as powerful as he was, the moment he was captured by his enemies, he became a sort of sport. They brought him out in chains and used him to entertain the whole multitude that came to the feast. When he lost his hair, he lost his glory. When he lost his eyes, he lost his vision. All those that knew him to be a powerful man, saw him in his struggles and made ridicule out of him.

The Israelites also suffered humiliation in the hands of the Babylonians during their captivity. The children of Israel were historically known to be a special breed of people. Everyone respected, valued and feared them because of God's factor in their lives. Whenever they remember how God dealt with the Egyptians and other nations because of this special people, they fear them the more. They never believed that a time will come where this mighty, favoured and protected people will become their slaves. When the Babylonians plundered Israel, without hesitation, they destroyed totally the Temple that was built by Solomon. As expensive as the Temple, it was totally erased.

They destroyed the military strength of Israel, and took their best young men and women and took them into exile. When they got to the waters of Babylon, the Babylonians made mockery of them. They made the Israelites to entertain them with the songs that they used to exalt Yaweh. For an Israelites to sing Yaweh's song in a strange land, for a strange people and for a strange purpose was the peak of their humiliation. So, by the Rivers of Babylon, the Israelites sat down and bowed their heads in shame whenever they remember where they have fallen.

Every child of grace must pray to the Father of grace to keep him or her from falling. When a believer falls, the fall is usually emphatic. It comes with a great pain, shame and mockery. I have seen many pastors fall to immorality and they become the sort of mockery among men. I have seen pastors children who wander astray, and their wandering have become a message in the mouth of mockers. I have seen Christians fall in error, and the news broke out with much enthusiasm. Today, whisper a prayer over yourself, your family and your pastor and their families, may the Lord not cast them aside into the mouth of their mockers in Jesus' name, Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, do not cast aside the righteous into the pit of mockers. Dont permit those who hate us to have an opportunity to mock us. May our heads never be bowed in shame. May the voice of our mockers not be louder than ours. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: Cast Aside (2)*

Psalm 44:10 You make us retreat from our enemies and allow those who hate us to plunder our land.

When the Lord cast aside His people, the outcome is always unbearable. There are several instances in the Old Testament to support this statement. First, we have the story of Achan as reported in Joshua chapter 7. Achan brought calamity into the camp of the Israelites by taking possession of the very things that God has declared as an abomination. When the Israelites wanted to go out in war against the people of Ai, they studied the people and came to a conclusion that at most about three thousand Israelites were enough to win the war against Ai.

To their amazement, the people of Ai gave the Israelites the shocking defeat of their life. The Israelites had to retreat down the valley in fear of the people of Ai. While they were retreating, they suffered another attack that led to the death and hostage taking of many of their soldiers. When they returned, Joshua and the elders of Israel bowed their heads in great shame and pain. When they inquired from the Lord, it was revealed that they have been cast aside from the Lord's presence because of the abomination that was done by Achan. Until Achan was expunged from the camp and stoned to death, that was when the confidence of the Israelites in war was restored.

Another popular incidence that resulted when the Lord cast aside His people is the story of Ichabod. In 1 Samuel 4, we saw the fall of Israel to the Philistines. The indiscipline of the sons of Eli brought corruption into the Temple. The Lord decided to cast them aside. When they went out against the Philistines, they were heavily plundered. They quickly retreated and demanded for the Ark of the Lord to be brought from Shiloh. When the Ark arrived, they suffered a greater plunder. The two sons of Eli died. The news of their death led to the death of Eli. The wife of Phinehas who was pregnant, was broken by this ugly news and labour was suddenly induced in her. She gave up to a son and named him Ichabod which means where is the Glory? Afterwards, she died.

When the Lord cast aside His people, they will always fly and retreat at the sight of their enemies. He will deliver the people into the hands of their enemies to wreck and plunder them. As a community of faith, we must be selective of the company that we keep. Don't become an Achan. Don't join a community when Achan is a member. Don't accommodate Hophini and Phinehas in your niche. They have what it takes to make the Lord to deliver His people to their enemies. May the Lord guide us and keep us far away from disobedient people who have no reverence for God and His sacred things. Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, keep me safe from a people that you have cast aside. In your power O Lord, take away every Achan that has disguised himself into our community. Keep me far away from the indiscipline and corruption of Phinehas and Hophini. Do not bring me into a war where you have designed to teach the people a lesson. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalm 44: Cast Aside*

Psalm 44:9 But now you have tossed us aside in dishonor. You no longer lead our armies to battle.

I know there are diverging opinions that are promoted by the teachers and preachers of God's grace, which does not agree on "the other hand of God." God is merciful and gracious. Yes, God is also a promoter of justice. God's Justice system did not end in the Old Testament. Whatever God has promised, has a premise that will lead to its fulfillment. And whatever goes contrary to God's standards, will also attract God's rewards. The Apostle Paul used the concept of sowing and reaping to illustrate this. You shall reap whatever you sow. When you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly. When your seed is full of evil, the proceeds will be basket full of evil as well.

When you read Deuteronomy 28, there are two aspects in the Bible passage. The first talked about the blessings that comes with obedience. These blessings were highlighted in the first fourteen verses of the passage. After that, the rest of the passage talked about the rewards for those who walked in disobedience. Instead of blessings, they will experience diverse curses. Infact, there was a specific curse that was mentioned for each type of disobedience. The more you disobey, the more the number of curses that will be attracted to your life. What humbled me the most is the fact that were only fourteen verses were used to pronounce blessings, fifyy-four verses were used to talk about curses and punishment. This is why a believer must be conscious to walk in obedience because the punishment for disobedience is too elaborate.

Today's Psalm happens to be the offshoot of the Babylonian captivity. The captivity of Israelites was proudly sponsored by their disobedience to Yahweh. The 70 years of exile was actualized in their time. It was like a joke in their eyes when God decided to give them what they deserved. A people that was once full of honour became a people of disrepute. When their armies now go out to war, they are now cast aside without the leadership of Yahweh. They thought it was probably not God because they know God to be gracious and kind. Before they realized it, they were in captivity in Babylon for seventy years.

When God cast you aside, honour, value and respect will totally become strange to you. Even when you occupy a big position, you will always suffer dishonour. When God cast the Israelites aside, even their kings and princes were now roaming the streets and farms of Babylon in shame as slaves. The strength of their armies were completely depleted. When David prayed: do not cast me away from your presence, he was praying one of the most powerful prayer points ever heard. When the Lord cast you aside, even nature will abandon you. This day, with the voice of David, cry out to God in prayer and say: My Father, please don't cast me aside. May the Lord answer your prayers in Jesus' name Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, create in me a willing and obedient heart to walk with you always. I have realized that for every act of disobedience, there is a punishment. Please don't cast me aside. Don't cast me into the hands of those who hate me. Don't abandon the host of Angels who war on my behalf. Lead me in paths of righteousness that I may behold your honour and praise. Thank You Father, Amen.

*Psalmspiration – Start Your Day With Psalm*

*Psalm 44: Give God His Glory*

Psalm 44:8 O God, we give glory to you all day long and constantly praise your name.

This Psalm of praise challenges our daily attitude to God's praise and glory. Man has the tendency in selective praise. When the day projects something pleasant and glorious, we respond with praise. When the day is full of the unexpected, we complain. Our disposition to each day is very important. It is the first response that we give when the unexpected happens that defines our true position in Christ. Some people begin their day by being anxious and exuding negative energy. Their day begins with murmurings and complains. They act bitterly as if waking up to see that day was a punishment that has been bestowed upon them.

I have seen scenarios where people wake up with so much troubles. They are heavily troubled such that everything around them will feel the impact of some of their troubles. When parents are troubled, it rubs off on the children. When a colleague is troubled, it rubs off on the neighbourhood. A troubled mind is a bitter and angry mind. Such a mind cannot express God's praise and glory. Instead, it directs it's bitterness and complains about God. Many people spend quality of their time and energy, in expressing their negative attitudes to God instead of praising God. They are like the Israelites who preferred murmurings to praising God.

When you listen to some people's prayer, you will be amazed. People look for vocabularies to explain to God about how they feel. They describe their situation as if God is ignorant about them. Some spend long hours in making petitions repeatedly. As if the repetition of their demands will make God to answer them. As we grow daily in our serving the Lord, we must learn to put things in the right perspective. A day that is filled with murmurings and complains cannot be counted as a productive day. What makes the day of a believer counts is his/her disposition to the praise of God.

Stop complaining to God about how terrible your situation has become. Stop murmuring against God as if He is the architect of your misfortunes. Stop creating vocabularies in describing how ugly your situation has evolved. Start declaring God's praise and glory in every season of your life. Praise God for each day. This should not be a traditional routine, but an intentional act. Be like the Psalmist who encountered a lot in his life, yet, his daily attitude to declaring God's praise and glory was unchanged. Let this Psalm be your mantra this season: O God, I give glory to you all day long and constantly praise your name. May the Lord honour your daily praise and grant you His blessings. Amen.

*Prayer:* Precious Father, this day I am intentional about your praise and glory. I praise you from sunrise to sun set. I will praise you through the rain and storm. I will praise you in all situations. My mouth shall continually declare your praise and glory. I will not give room to murmurings and complains in my life. Your praise, glory, honour, majesty and awe will be expressed in my mouth daily. Hallelujah.
