ON PMB'S INSULT ON NIGERIA YOUTHS

The President was reported to have said that

"More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education for free.”

Mr. President you are very wrong, I repeat, very wrong, without mincing words, you are very wrong.

I am a youth, I have bagged B.A Philosophy from University of Port Harcourt, I did so some 5 years ago (2013)I was actually below 25 then, I did my compulsory NYSC between 2014-2015. I am not lazy and doing nothing, I am currently engrossed in self development, I am also understudying the Oil Industry.

Undoubtedly, Nigeria is an oil rich state, it is not a claim as you asserted. Mr. President, if I start rolling out names of my friends who have bagged their Masters Degree already and currently pursuing their Ph.D you won't exhaust the list the next one week.

Next time, tell the world that
myself and a whole lot of other youths are not hoping to get education, healthcare and housing for free, albeit there is nothing wrong if we get it for free, after all you are getting all those for free. The NIGERIA state take care of you, everything about you: clothing, housing, security, healthcare, feeding, trips, et.al.

We are only hoping the government provide the necessary conducive environment for our talents to be nurtured, the environment to use our talents, knowledge, skill in contributing to the development of our country.

A lot of our youths may not have graduated, they certainly have their SSCE, a lot of them are skilled and doing very well in their various endeavours, some are still gunning to bag their Bachelor degree, they are not expecting to get those services you talked about for free. They want the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria.

N/B: I supported your election in 2015, as it stands you are still my choice for 2019 as I have seen no better alternative.

IPOB: JUSTICE & THE NIGERIA STATE.

I am one person who do not support IPOB agitation not because I'm comfortable with Nigeria as it is, my reasons for not supporting includes but not limited to:
1) Thier abusive and non tolerant posture.
2) Denying others the same right they are asserting, I don't understand how my town for example would be found in a map drawn by a man without due consultations.
3) Massive ethnic bias.
4) Personal interactions with a good number of IPOB supporters.

I believe so many persons not supporting IPOB is doing so for some of the aforesaid reasons, else, the support would have been unprecedented.

Very few persons are happy with Nigeria as it is. Nigeria as presently constituted stinks, it is not a creation of 'Nigerians'. Lugard and his girlfriend, Flora gave birth to Nigeria over a 102 years ago. The whole quest for independence was nothing other than self rule. Yet, successive government have failed completely and have made no adequate attempt in resolving issues surrounding the unity of this country.

Unity as a term is not altruistic, criminals can unite to unleash mayhem on others. A group of people could unite for the purpose of achieving any goal whatsoever. Unity has to be properly defined through dialogue, negotiation, agreement, etc. It is for this reason that I have not failed to condemn and criticize whoever says the unity of Nigeria is a no no go area. Ranging from Fmr. President Jonathan who declared so during the CONFAB to President Buhari who declared so during his media chat I think.

Nigeria is a classic example of injustice, a state with lack of respect for rule of law and human right, not to forget environmental rights, a substitute for corruption, nepotism, ethnicity, and religious bigotry. A state that cares less for her 'citizens' and an example of waste.

This is a state where you gain admission into higher institutions on quota system, gain employment on same system. Funny enough, the system treats equals unequally and treats unequals equally. A good example is admission into the unity schools. While someone who scored 230 from Anambra or Rivers state would not gain admission into the school, someone from Zamfara who scored 005 will, while someone who possesses a bachelor degree may not be employed, someone with 1 pass in SScE or even FSLC will...

Is MIGHT RIGHT?: A Case Study of Elections in Rivers State

Thrasimacus lucidly posited thus, "might is right" in one of Plato's dialogues. Socrates laboured through questioning and analysis to convince those who believe in this theory of right to have a change of heart.

Closely related to this sort of thinking is the Machiavellian dictum, "the end justifies the means". In other words, it does not matter how a thing is done, let it just be done.

Consequently, the period leading to 2015 general elections in Rivers State saw a lot of madness, 5 persons purported to have legally and correctly so impeached the Speaker, RSHA. The CP then, Joseph Mbu was used to ensure those opposed to former president, Jonathan never had rally. It happened severally at RIVCAS now Elechi-Amadi Polytechnic. At Okirika APC couldn't campaign, lives were lost, those enroute the mega rally at Adokiye-Ameisimaka stadium were shot at, free citizens sustained various degrees of injuries, so many persons professing APC were kept behind bars and never saw the elections, etc

The governor then, Rt. Hon. Amaechi was doing all the wailing, the then Minister of State, Education was nicknamed "excess power, power karila, high tension etc" The reason was simple, he had the MIGHT, and it was right to use it. Those of us who reside here and followed the election in Rivers State know as a fact that what happened in the state was a display of might. The rest is history.

Today, the then wailing governor is the Minister of Transportation and has the MIGHT, he is nicknamed "the lion". He displayed might at Mile One Police Station in March 2016, during the re-run, the then "excess power, high tension " (Wike) could not gain entrance, he simply stood outside the gate, while the lion took charge. Chief Wike is now the wailer, he wails, complains, threatens and even suggests that things be done the right way since we are in the era of CHANGE.

Hmmmmmmmm

Fellow compatriots, like Socrates, I do not believe in the Thrasimaculean and Machiavellian principle of divorcing morals and ethics from politics and indeed other spheres of life. The earlier we build strong institutions and not strong men, as well as take away might from individuals, the better for our society. This might readily available to our political class especially during elections will continually subvert the will of voters.

A court in Ekiti sentences an armed robber to death by hanging, Nigerians are reacting and kicking against it because he stole only about N15,000 while the big thieves are free. So someone who stole about N15,000 using arm will not steal billions of niara if opportunity presents itself? Or is there any other definition of armed robbery?

I really wonder how we think!

Rather than put pressure on the relevant government agencies to ensure the so called big thieves do not influence justice, they are angry because one of their own (poor man) was convicted. Not necessarily because the man committed a crime.

What a way to think!

WHY MORE GOOD PEOPLE SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN POLITICS, A MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF MY BIRTHDAY
As I travel through the city of Ugheli in Delta State, an oil rich state at that, I saw pregnant women mixing cement and sand, serving bricklayers building upstairs, they were actually climbing up. I wept!

At Ifon in Ondo state, I saw the real definition of poverty, it was all over them, from their homes to their environment, to the number of persons in a room, and their clothing. I wept!

The story was not different at Edo, high tension passed through their communities but I saw no trace(s) of wire(s) in their homes, the place looked horrible and not habitable. I wept yet again.

On getting to Eyio in Ekiti, it was something else, you needed to visit this place, I was even told Eyio was a paradise compared to Eshurun. I couldn't get there cuz my eyes were already falling off. I continued weeping!

At some communities in Okene, Igala and Kaba in Kogi state, it is terribly terrible. The people of Abaji, and Darkibeu around Jabi in FCT have no different story.

I was at a place without address somewhere around Ngwa in Abia State, you 'll wonder if government actually exist, it was in same Abia I saw a mad man control traffic yet 'sane' men obeyed cuz those charged with the responsibility had abandoned it.

At Abunmeri in Ebonyi you 'll weep, Omuagwo people in Imo are crying, their community is devastated cuz their internal road is now a major route, go there, see things for yourself.

At Benue, the story wasn't different. Somewhere around Sagbama in Bayelsa it wasn't any different, this state produced the immediate past president of Nigeria who governed for over 6years. I was told his community, Otueke has no light, I don't know how true this is.

At Akwa Ibom, you need to see things for yourself. Ogoja people in Cross Rivers are not better.

My darling Rivers State is not different, at some communities in Ahoada west, Mbiama, Alimini, and many others, the story is sad.

As I see young people of school age sell on the streets, I begin to see just why government should invest more in education. The consequences of this will surely tell on my generation.

Although the governors and leaders of these places are doing their best, but their best isn't just enough. They need to travel less and work more. They need to spend more on infrastructure than media censoring and propaganda. They need to stop encouraging criminals and provide security. They need to build more roads than acquire more properties for themselves as well as launder money.

As I see all these, I see reasons why more and more good people should participate in politics.

God bless Nigeria.

DEATH OF A UNIPORT STUDENT: THE NEED TO MAKE STRINGENT LAWS HOLDING DOCTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEATH OF PATIENTS

Some months ago, I was discussing with one of teachers, Victor C. Wolemonwu; It was basically on the rationale behind his interest in bioethics. He told me a lot including the need to make doctors responsible for death of patients.

He argued that doctors in this part of the world are just pococurante and place the lives of their patients entirely on God. We recounted how medical practitioners treat patients with scorn, disdain and disrespect.

When the news of the death of a 300L female student of University of Port Harcourt, Theater Arts Department got to me this morning I remembered our intellectual discussions. I was told the girl died after over SIX hours of neglect by the nurses and doctors of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) claiming there was no bed space. Recall that many persons have died as a result of this callous act.

This is totally against the Hippocratic oath doctors and other medical practitioners take.

As an alumnus of the school and a concerned Nigerian, I am pained. The doctors and other health workers on duty should be prosecuted, but by what law? Currently, students are protesting, will it bring back her life? If the deceased was a relative of any of those on duty, would she have received the kind of attention she got?

May her soul RIP.

It's a super-duper Sunday, United almost ruined it though.

Whereas other continents are making efforts to bequeath good leadership, industries, quality education, technology, good health care, security etc to their future generation, Africa rulers (leaders) are still scrambling to die in power, loot the collective wealth of her country just to pile for their immediate family up to the 20th generation. They forget we are in a global world.

How can we (Africans) compete favourably with other nations (continents) that are prudent with the resources of her countries? Someone will totally disregard the basic institution upon which he is standing an election; this 'sane' being will also swear (take oath of office) with the same instrument, to uphold and carry out his duties in accordance with the provisions of the law. This is so sad, why always Africa? Who will bail the cat?
