FIDA Nigeria celebrates 100 years of legal practice in Warri a century shaped by vision, courage, and a deep dedication to justice.

At the center of this historic journey is *Hon. Asifo Egbe*, the first lawyer to practice in Warri in 1925. Called to the English Bar and later enrolled in Nigeria, he ventured into uncharted territory, setting the stage for generations of lawyers to follow. His pioneering spirit, dedication to the rule of law, and bold pursuit of justice continue to inspire the legal profession across the country.

This milestone holds special resonance for many: Hon. Asifo Egbe is the grandfather of *Chief (Mrs.) Tessa Ikimi*, Chairperson of FIDA Nigeria’s Board of Trustees. The principles he championed—integrity, service, and courage—live on through her leadership, advancing the rights of women and children across Nigeria.

A century later, his story reminds us that legacies endure not through words, but through actions that shape the future. As Warri’s legal community marks this milestone, we honour the past, celebrate the lineage, and look ahead to the generations inspired by his bold example.

Women deserve a real seat at the table not later, but now.

For years, Nigerian women have driven progress in every sector, yet remain underrepresented where decisions about our nation are made. The Reserved Seats for Women Bill is a bold step toward fixing this imbalance and strengthening our democracy.

This bill isn’t about favours it’s about fairness, equity, and giving women the space they have long earned. When women lead, governance becomes more inclusive, communities thrive, and Nigeria moves forward.

FIDA Nigeria proudly supports this bill and calls on all stakeholders to do the same. A more just and representative Nigeria starts with ensuring women have the seats they deserve.

Highlights from the FIDA Nigeria 2025 Welcome Cocktail

The Welcome Cocktail which was well attended held at Ikeja, with members causally dressed in jeans and white tops excited to see friends and colleagues from across the 46 branches, members gathered with assured energy — an evening shaped by honest conversations, shared purpose, and the quiet reminder of why members remain committed to this work.

The screening of the film ' Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti' became the emotional centre of the night, as members watched and reflected on Her journey — from the first female student at Abeokuta Grammar School to a fearless national voice — which held the room still.

Her story brought to mind key questions that continue to define the struggle for women’s rights today:

Who speaks when women are sidelined? What keeps a woman standing when the odds tilt against her? How does conviction survive pressure and opposition?

The post-film reflections were sincere and layered. Members spoke about strength in composure, the role of education, the power of supportive partnerships, the influence of good upbringing, and the necessity of unity when pursuing a collective mission.

Each voice added nuance, grounding the evening in shared understanding.

The event also provided a wonderful opportunity for all members to honour those whose presence, continues to strengthen FIDA, Their presence underscored the continuity of dedication that has shaped the association’s journey.

The CVP, Eliana Martins, addressed the gathering with clarity and gratitude — acknowledging the turnout, and charging members for further effective action

As the formal discussions eased out, the room shifted into a lighter mood. As Members reconnected, shouts of joy and laughter, filled the dance floor — a needed reminder of balancing as group Pictures were taken

The Welcome Cocktail nicely broke the ice as members interacted and bonded
