Understanding CAMA and the Role of CAC in Nigeria

The Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA) is the principal law regulating companies, business names, partnerships, and incorporated trustees in Nigeria.

The Act establishes the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as the regulatory authority responsible for:
• Incorporation of companies
• Registration of business names
• Registration of incorporated trustees (NGOs, associations)
• Maintenance of corporate records
• Ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements

The CAC also supervises post-incorporation obligations, including:
• Filing of annual returns
• Changes in directors, address, or share capital
• Maintenance of statutory registers

Failure to comply with these requirements will lead to financial losses, penalties, regulatory sanctions, or even criminal liability.

📌 Key takeaway:
If you run a business in Nigeria, compliance with CAMA through CAC registration is not optional — it is a legal requirement.

Seeking Advice on Joint Land Purchase with Husband

My husband suggested we buy a plot of land together, proposing a 50/50 split. I agreed, excited about the opportunity. However, when I provided my share of the funds, he revealed he couldn't contribute equally. Instead, he asked me to add more money, citing our familial relationship and downplaying the disparity in our contributions.

I'm hesitant because he has a history of solely owning his properties and has even given away the car he bought for our family to his brother. Given that his contribution is only 10%, I'm unsure if I should proceed.

Should I:

1. Negotiate a clearer agreement outlining ownership and responsibilities?
2. Reconsider the joint purchase due to the unequal contribution and potential risks?
3. Seek mediation or counseling to discuss our financial decisions and goals?

Please offer guidance on how to navigate this situation.

Important Advice for Men:

To avoid unnecessary stress and financial losses for your loved ones, take proactive steps to secure their future. If you pass away without making your wife or adult children signatories to your bank accounts:

- Over 10% of your money may go to the government and lawyers due to the required Letter of Administration process.
- Your family will face unnecessary stress and bureaucratic hurdles to access your funds.

Prevent this by:

- Adding your wife or adult children as signatories to your bank accounts.
- Including your wife's name on property deeds to ensure seamless transfer of ownership.

Don't let ignorance of the law put your family through unnecessary hardship. Take care of these essential matters today and make life easier for your loved ones tomorrow.

I want to share a personal story about a misunderstanding I had with my fiancé.

We were to hangout with his friends , Before we left the house on sunday he promised to send me 500,000 naira.

This money was very important because my mother had called earlier, saying there was no food at home. they had to drink garri the day before.

Also, my sister, who is very sick and struggles with alcoh00l addicti00n needed to go to the hospital.

As time went by and I didn’t receive the money, I became more and more upset. We were at a gathering with his friends when I couldn’t hold it in any longer.

I confronted him in front of everyone, call$d him names, and then walked out.

I was very upset.
Later, he explained that there were network issues, which is why the transfer didn’t go through. We made up after that. But then, one of his friends messaged him, saying that my behavior was a big red flag and that it would be worse after we got married.

My fiancé replied that he had been thinking about canceling the wedding, which is planned for April. I saw these messages, but he hasn’t talked to me about it yet. Now, I’m not sure if I should bring it up or wait for him to say something.

I already know what I did was not good and already apologized.why is his friend instigating him? It means he also is not ready, he knows I am the breadwinner and I don’t have a job yet. He should shoulder the responsibility of the family , he gives his own family without complain.

I love him so much and I want to know his stance .
