The Goldmine Within

Everyman is a mobile goldmine.
Everyman has a goldmine in him.
No man should be poor.

What it takes to be rich
lies within Everyman.
How to bring it out -
that is the silent, loud question.

But it’s there.

It’s not about a country,
or a continent.
Everyman is a mobile goldmine.

Yet enemies surround the mine.
They are armed -
not with guns,
but with voices.

The first enemy - Mr. Self-Doubt,
whispers, “Not true.”
The second - Mr. Fear,
screams, “No way!”
The third - Mr. Lazy,
sighs, “We’ll check it out tomorrow.”
The fourth - Mr. No One to Help,
shrugs, “It’s just my condition.”
The fifth - Mr. Give-Up,
groans, “I can’t take it anymore.”

Other hidden enemies
have garrisoned the mine,
built walls around it,
covered it with silence
and excuses.

Yet still…
Man is a mobile goldmine.
The man in the man
is goldmine.

So the question echoes -
What shall we do
to unveil the man within?

Pdan.

I am deeply passionate about the art of negotiation, as I believe that everything can be negotiated, even in their final stages. In this time of global recession, we must be more deliberate and strategic in our negotiations than ever before. Don’t be taken advantage of. To enhance value in our relationships; whether in sales, purchases, or job interviews, we need to take the initiative to maximize benefits while preserving those vital connections.

Be mindful to negotiate before you walk away. Just one more ask can make all the difference.

Having it on your terms in negotiation starts with understanding yourself better and taking charge of your decisions. Negotiation is a life journey from cradle to the grave. I will speak more to this another time. Negotiation isn't about arguing but about bargaining the details of your interests in life, family, career, business, relationships, and more. At some point, everyone faces conflicts, whether self-imposed or situational, and must negotiate for a favorable outcome. You can't let situations overwhelm you; instead, take charge by knowing what you want and negotiating for it. As a wise person once said and I agree—“Life will not give you what you want but what you negotiate out of it.”

The emphasis here is that negotiation begins internally before it manifests externally. You can only get the best out of life from others if you know how to speak with yourself for the best outcomes. Never lose sight of yourself. Even when situations seem overwhelming with lies, confusion, and betrayals, remember, you must be your own friend first before anyone else. Let me share some basic tips to help you negotiate with yourself for greater causes rather than being overwhelmed by the opinions of others who may be confused themselves, gripped by fears of the unknown, and willing to sacrifice relationships due to self-doubt.

a. Know Yourself: Start by understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and goals. This self-awareness helps you recognize and address any doubts or confusion that may arise. No one can define you or limit you without your consent.

b. Know What You Want: What's the best that can happen? What's the worst? You cannot afford to accommodate others' fears. Once you can answer these questions, half the problem is solved. Don’t put your life on hold waiting for external directions—take control.

c. Handle Inner Conflicts: Address internal conflicts by acknowledging and understanding their impact on your decision-making. Reflect on conflicting desires or fears to find resolutions. Some decisions may be tough and could disrupt your current way of life, but resolve them in your favor, not leaving them to strangers. One inspirational phrase that resonates with me is, “Those who leave their lives to chance will never have any chance.”

d. Evaluate Risks and Rewards: Consider potential risks and rewards of different choices. Understand what you might gain or lose in negotiation scenarios to make informed decisions. While some outcomes are unavoidable, you can manage your exposure.

e. Practice and Learn: Improve your negotiation skills through practice. Engage in conversations where negotiation is crucial, both internally and externally. Your experiences have prepared you for the next. Don’t discount your worth. Delegate your burdens to God so you can travel light.

By focusing on the above points, you'll transition from managing doubts and uncertainties within yourself to effectively navigating external negotiations for greater achievements.

In today's rapidly evolving and challenging business landscape, effective Corporate Governance stands as a pivotal force that can shape the destiny of organizations. It acts as the guardian of trust, fostering transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making. Companies that prioritize robust corporate governance not only enhance their reputation but also lay a solid foundation for long-term success. Let's delve into the transformative power of effective corporate governance.

First, a strong corporate governance creates an environment of trust. By establishing clear ethical guidelines and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, companies instill confidence in their stakeholders. Shareholders, employees, customers, and the wider public can rest assured that the organization operates with integrity, reducing the risk of unethical practices or financial improprieties. Trust forms the bedrock of successful businesses, attracting investors, fostering employee loyalty, and strengthening relationships with customers.

Also, effective corporate governance fosters transparency throughout an organization. It encourages an open communication channels, allowing for the free flow of information and ideas. Transparent decision-making processes ensure that key stakeholders are informed and engaged, enabling them to contribute meaningfully and hold management accountable. This transparency not only helps to mitigate the risks associated with conflicts of interest and decision-making biases but also drives innovation and adaptability.

Corporate governance also plays a crucial role in promoting responsible decision-making. By establishing diverse and independent boards, companies benefit from a wide range of perspectives and expertise. Independent directors bring fresh insights, challenge the status quo, and provide valuable checks and balances. A culture of responsible decision-making ensures that companies prioritize long-term value creation over short-term gains, making them more resilient and sustainable in the face of uncertainty.

Additionally, effective corporate governance enhances risk management practices. By establishing robust internal controls and risk assessment mechanisms, organizations can proactively identify and address potential threats. A strong governance framework promotes a culture of risk awareness and mitigation, protecting companies from reputational damage, legal liabilities, and financial losses. Moreover, by ensuring proper oversight and accountability, corporate governance acts as a deterrent to fraud and unethical behavior.

Finally, strong corporate governance has a positive impact on performance and shareholder value. Numerous studies have shown a correlation between effective governance practices and improved financial results. Companies with transparent reporting, accountable management, and ethical decision-making tend to attract higher valuations.
