Workshop on Strategic Planning for the Mitigation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
In 2023, under my able leadership as the then Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kano Branch, I successfully organized a capacity-building workshop targeted at market women and students, with a focus on strategic planning for the mitigation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The workshop took place at Bristol Palace, Kano, and was generously supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme II (RoLAC II).

The workshop was designed to empower participants with practical knowledge and skills aimed at preventing and responding to GBV within their communities, educational institutions, and business environments. It brought together market women, students, and relevant stakeholders, creating a platform for learning, engagement, and experience sharing.

I also delivered a PowerPoint presentation specifically tailored to educating business women on effective business management and sustainability. The presentation emphasized the importance of transforming informal businesses into formally incorporated entities, highlighting the numerous advantages such as improved access to opportunities, legal recognition, enhanced credibility, accountability, and protection under the law. Participants were guided on how formal incorporation can strengthen business growth and long-term stability. Additionally, comprehensive sessions were conducted on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), focusing on how to identify early warning signs, risk factors, and vulnerable situations. Practical steps for prevention, control, and appropriate response mechanisms were thoroughly discussed, including the roles of individuals, communities, and legal institutions in combating GBV. The program reinforced FIDA Kano Branch’s commitment to. promoting women’s rights, legal awareness, economic empowerment, and the prevention of Gender-Based Violence through strategic education

A Moment of Pride and Excellence 🏆📚

Guidance Standard School, under the visionary leadership of its Proprietoress, Barr. Bilkisu Suleiman Esq., proudly emerged as the Overall Best School at the 2023 NAPPS National Spelling Bee Competition held at Yandutse College.

This outstanding achievement is a testament to our school’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, effective teaching, and the nurturing of intellectual confidence in our learners. Following this remarkable victory, our brilliant student, accompanied by a dedicated teacher, subsequently proceeded to Lagos to represent the school and the state at the overall national level of the competition. During the national competition we emerged first, third and fourth position as the final round.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our teachers, students, parents, and the entire school community for their continuous support and hard work. This milestone further reinforces our resolve to sustain excellence and raise future leaders equipped with knowledge and confidence.

I had the privilege of being invited as a Special Guest and Discussant at the Kano State Judiciary Retreat held on 7th December, 2022, at the Port Golf Resort, Minjibir Park, Kano State. I was honoured to discussed on the topic “Efficient Justice Delivery Mechanism in the Lower Courts of Kano State,” and convened judicial officers, legal practitioners, and key stakeholders within the justice sector to deliberate on improving the effectiveness and timeliness of justice delivery at the grassroots level.

The retreat was graced by the presence of the late former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, whose contributions enriched the discourse and underscored the importance of judicial reforms, institutional efficiency, and adherence to the rule of law. As a discussant, I contributed to the deliberations by sharing practical insights and perspectives on strengthening procedural efficiency, enhancing access to justice, and improving the overall performance of lower courts in Kano State.

The engagement provided a valuable platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the development of actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening judicial service delivery and promoting public confidence in the justice system.

I had the privilege of leading a team that carried out a successful workshop on capacity building on the proper implementation of ACJ, It was carried out by Fida Kano branch to a grassroots Community organization known as "GYARA KAYAN KA" in Kumbotso LGA, about one hundred women participated and twenty men, on 16th December, 2020.

The training was both timely and impactful, as it provided participants with in-depth knowledge of the principles, objectives, and practical application of the ACJL in promoting justice, fairness, and efficiency within the criminal justice system. It also emphasized the roles of stakeholders and community members in ensuring compliance with the law, safeguarding human rights, and strengthening public confidence in the justice process.

Overall, the engagement was highly enlightening and rewarding, reinforcing the importance of community awareness and collaboration in the effective implementation of the ACJL for the promotion of peace, accountability, and the rule of law at the grassroots level.

My First Major Activity After Assuming Office as FIDA Kano Chairperson (2021–2024)

Upon assuming office, I was met with the reality of an empty account. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I immediately swung into action through strategic collaboration. I took deliberate steps to amplify the voice and visibility of FIDA Kano under my able leadership, with the aim of attracting more collaborators and key stakeholders.

Consequently, we sought partnerships with Mumbaya House Centre for Democratic Research and Development, alongside eight other civil society organisations (CSOs). Together, we initiated a programme to recognize women of substance in our communities both professionals and grassroots women whose contributions and impact have positively shaped our lives and society.More than 50 women were recognized and celebrated that particular day through given them awards of recognition
In total more than 500 woman we in attendance and other dignitaries such NCC chairman and many other dignitaries including many female high court judges and prominent legal professionals
Alhamdulillah that single move has opened up doors for many state actors and stakeholders engagements with Fida Kano through out my tenure and beyond
This ha help drastically improve the services fida kano is rendering to the public especially indigents

One-Year Anniversary Reflection | 15 December 2025

Today, 15 December 2025, marks exactly one year since the completion of my tenure as Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kano Branch. It is a moment of deep reflection, gratitude, and pride as I look back on a period defined by purposeful leadership, innovation, and collective progress.

The second edition after the luncheon of the maiden magazine of the state branch in 2023 all of these were published and uploaded to the website of the Association as part of the initiative of my administration which was never done by all the past leadership of the association since the establishment of Kano state branch in 1992 to date
Out of commitment to preserve records and maintain tracking progress of the association.

To commemorate this landmark achievement, I organized a dignified luncheon event which successfully combined the launching of the FIDA Magazine with the inauguration of the newly elected Executive Council. The occasion was a celebration of continuity, renewal, and unity bringing together past leaders, stakeholders, members, and partners in a shared vision for a stronger and more impactful FIDA.

As I mark this one-year anniversary, I remain sincerely grateful to all members, collaborators, and well-wishers whose support made these accomplishments possible. The journey reinforced my belief in service, teamwork, and legacy-driven leadership.

FIDA remains a beacon of justice, professionalism, and advocacy and I am proud to have contributed meaningfully to its enduring story.

I remain grateful to Almighty Allah and the entire members of FIDA, Kano Branch.

Under the leadership of Barrister Bilkisu Ibrahim Suleiman, FIDA Kano achieved remarkable progress in strengthening professionalism and ethical practice within the legal community. She spearheaded a highly impactful one-day legal training and workshop focused on civil and criminal procedure, legal ethics, and professional discipline—an initiative that brought together senior lawyers, young practitioners, and key justice-sector stakeholders.

Her administration’s commitment to excellence, capacity building, and institutional growth was further demonstrated through the historic hosting of the National Executive Council Meeting in 2024—the first since 2005—signaling a renewed vibrancy and national relevance for FIDA Kano.

Alhamdulillah!
I was honoured to attend the 2025 FIDA National AGM in Lagos with our dedicated FIDA Kano team.

A major misconception came up about Shariah and the husband’s right to “correct” his wife. I clarified that Shariah does not permit a husband to beat his wife—correction in Islam is symbolic, mild, and never harmful.

I also emphasized the need for stronger mentorship in FIDA and recommended a national mentorship framework to support all 45 branches.

Together, we can build a more informed, stronger, and more impactful FIDA.

I had the privilege of attending a technical session organized by WOFAN on February 2nd, 2024, focused on the Draft Agricultural Extension Revitalization Bill. The session brought together key stakeholders to review and strengthen the proposed framework aimed at improving agricultural extension services in Nigeria.

During the deliberations, I was nominated to highlight the critical need for a dedicated legal team to support the effective enforcement of agricultural policies. I emphasized that strong legal backing is essential for ensuring compliance, protecting stakeholders’ rights, and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

The event provided a valuable platform for constructive dialogue and reaffirmed the importance of legal, institutional, and technical collaboration in revitalizing the nation’s agricultural extension system.

RECEPTION ORGANIZED BY NBA KANO BRANCH IN HONOUR OF IT'S EMINENT MEMBERS TO THE HIGHEST RANK IN LEGAL PROFESSION

I was greatly invited by the NBA KANO chairman to attend the prestigious reception organized in celebration of two of its distinguished members who have attained the highest rank in the legal profession. The event was convened to honor Aminu S. Gadanya, SAN, and Abdulkareem Kabir Maude, SAN who is also the current Attorney General of Kano state, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the legal community and their recent elevation as Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The reception was attended by important dignitaries from across the country such as the National president of NBA Maxi Afan. The ceremony was not only a tribute to their professional excellence but also a reflection of the enduring respect they command within the legal fraternity. It was inspiring to witness such a gathering of learned minds, united to celebrate hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of justice.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the newly elevated SANs and commend the NBA Kano Branch for organizing such a memorable and dignified event. Their achievements serve as a motivation to young legal professionals and a testament to the rewarding nature of commitment and integrity in the pursuit of legal excellence.
