Never Sign What You Haven’t Read ✍🏾

In law, a signature signifies consent and understanding. Once you append your signature to a document, you are presumed to have read, understood, and agreed to its contents, whether or not you actually did.

Many legal disputes arise simply because individuals sign documents in haste or out of trust, without verifying the terms. This can lead to unintended obligations, financial losses, or even the waiver of important rights.

Always take time to read every document before signing.
If the language is unclear or too technical, seek legal guidance. It is better to delay a signature than to deal with the consequences of one made in ignorance.

Remember: in law, your signature binds you.

Not too long ago, a woman walked into court seeking a divorce. Her reason? Her husband had been unfaithful.

But here’s what shocked many people in court that day, she didn’t only sue her husband. She also sued the woman he cheated with.

Why? Because under Nigerian law, adultery is a valid ground for divorce, and the “third party” in the affair can be joined as a co-respondent in the divorce petition. The law recognizes that it takes two people to commit adultery, and it can hold both accountable.

Imagine the shame of being dragged before a judge for breaking another person’s home. 😬

So, before saying “yes” to someone else’s husband or wife, remember: it’s not just morally wrong, it can also land you in court.

💡 Marriage is sacred. Don’t be the reason one crumbles.

💍 Marriage without segx?

That’s like buying jollof rice without stew, dry, tasteless, and frustrating. 🍚😂

Consummation is not optional; it’s part of the marriage package. Refusing your partner intimacy isn’t just emotional punishment — under Nigerian law, it can actually be a ticket to divorce. 🚪

So, before you say “I do”, remember it also means “we do”. 😉🔥

💡 Why Names Matter in Property Ownership

When Segun and Rose got married, they promised to build everything together. Years later, they finally saved enough to buy a house.

The lawyer asked:
“Do you want the property registered as Mr. & Mrs. Abayomi or as Mr. Abayomi Segun and Mrs. Rose Abayomi?”

Segun almost said Mr. & Mrs. Abayomi, after all, that’s what everyone calls them. But the lawyer smiled and explained:

✨ “Mr. & Mrs. Abayomi” is not a legal identity. It’s just a social title. If you register your property that way, tomorrow if anything happens death, divorce, or dispute, there will be confusion because the law recognizes real names, not nicknames.

✨ By writing Mr. Abayomi Segun and Mrs. Rose Abayomi, the property is legally tied to both of them as individuals, with their full identities. No argument, no ambiguity, no loophole.

That day, Segun and Rose understood something important: love builds the home, but law protects it.

So, if you and your spouse are buying property, don’t just sign as Mr. & Mrs., use your full names. It could save you a lifetime of stress.

Maiden Name → This simply means the surname a woman had before marriage. For example, if Mary Johnson gets married to Mr. Adewale and changes her surname to Mary Adewale, her maiden name is still Johnson.

Mother’s Maiden Name → This means your mother’s surname before she got married. It’s often used as a security question when filling forms or opening accounts. For instance, if your mother was Grace Oladipo before marrying Mr. Bello and later became Grace Bello, then her maiden name is Oladipo.

✅ In short:

Maiden name → a woman’s own surname before marriage.

Mother’s maiden name → your mother’s surname before she married your father (or before she changed her surname).
