Our Story
STORY OF A GRATE KING “OBA(ALHAJI) SALAWU AKANNI AMINU(MHC,OON,JP)” Was born into the family of Akinbami Alao at Mapo in ibandan so much year ago, Oba Salawu Aminu’s was Mogaji Aminu Akinbami while his mother was Asimawu Aminu. After the demise of Oba Salawu Aminu’s Father(Mogaji Aminu Akinbami), he became the mogaji of Akinbanmi family, from where he rose through the ranks of Balogun Chieftaincy line because his progenitor Akinbanmi Alao was a very famous and powerful warrior of his time who migrated from ILUA(Kajola Local Govt. Area of the present Oyo State to Ibadan). Oba Salawu Aminu having succeded in climbing the mandatory 23steps on the Balogun Chieftaincy line was installed as the 32nd Olubadan of Ibadanland by Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola The then Premier of Western region of Nigeria on 2nd of April, 1965 after the death of Oba Yesufu Kobiowu. Before Oba Salawu Aminu became the olubadan of Ibadanland, he was the most senior high Chief on the Balogun Chieftaincy line and was automatically chosen as a member of the then house of chiefs in the old western Region of Nigeria where he Contributed Positively on all the issues that were debated During the house sittings, soon after becoming the olubadan of ibadanland Oba Salawu Aminu was appointed a minister without portfolio by the last permier of the region chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola in1965 thus becoming a member of the Executive Council of Western Region of Nigeria. By tint of hardwork and sincere dedication to the upliftment and development of Ibadanland Western state of Nigeria and the Country at Large, the then Military Head of State “General Yakubu Gowon” conferred the prestigious Merit Award of the Office of the Order of Niger(OON) on Oba Salawu Aminu in recognition of his Immense contribution to his fatherland and Nigeria, before the advent of the civil war in 1967, Oba Salwu Aminu the then Olubadan of Ibadanland was chosen by the Military head of state “General Yakubu Gowon” as one of the traditional rulers in the country to broker peace with colonel Odumegu Ojukwu to rescind his decision to pull out the whole of eastern part of the country out of Nigeria. Oba Salawu Aminu by his disposition for peace aat all times was also decorated with the medal of justice of the peace, Oba Salawu Aminu through the grace of God as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland was able to crus the AGBEKOYA uprising in Ibadanland which was sponsored by the most senior high chief in the Olubadan in council then, an act which could have had adverse consequences in the peace and tranquility being enjoying by all and sundry in Ibadanland if it had Succeeded. Oba Salawu Aminu was Grand Patron to many Islamic Organization including Islamic progressive Association of Nigeria(IPAN) with its headquarters in the mosque built by him at Adeoyo Ibadan. Oba Salawu Aminu as an advocate of human rights and freedom, he was known for his regular saying “KIJE TI BABA TOMO KO MO NI AALA” saw to the creation of mid-Western stae of nigeria which had now metamorphosed into Edo and Delta states, when he was a member of the house of chief before becoming the Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Salawu Aminu whose reign ushered in may industrial developments witnessed the establishment of the first plastic company “NIPOL APATA” in the whole of the Old Western Region. Oba Salawu Aminu passed on peacefully on the 18th of November, 1971 leaving his first son(Alhaji Zakariyau Aminu) as the mogaji of the family (May his gentle soul Rest in perfect peace and may God grant him a place in paradise(Amin Insha Allah).
