FOONG CHEE KEEN

Foong did his pupilage in a criminal litigation firm where his pupil master taught him the tricks and traits of criminal litigation. Towards the end of his pupilage, he was offered to join the prestigious service in the Judiciary of Malaysia as an officer. Thereafter, he began his national service from Dec 2008 as a Judicial and Legal Officer at the High Court of Malaya Kuala Lumpur. During his tenure as a Judicial officer, he held the positions of ex officio Magistrate, Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR) and Remand Officer. He left the Judicial and Legal Service on Dec 2010 to pursue his career in private practise. He had conducted hearings in Advisory Board's hearings held pursuant to Article 151 of the Federal Constitution, Industrial Courts, Magistrates' Courts, Sessions Courts, High Courts and the Court of Appeal Malaysia. He has vast experience in general litigation as well as criminal litigation. In his career, he has represented the following: (1) Australian company listed in Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in dispute involving more than RM 60 million; (2) Family inheritance dispute involving more than RM 80 million; (3) Defamation matters; (4) Habeas Corpus matters involving private individual rights. Tan Guat Cheng graduated in 2007 with honours a Bachelor of Law degree from the acclaimed University Malaya. Her unstoppable passion for law and justice drove her to pursue the Master of Law (LLM) soon after. Her unquenchable drive for academic excellence geared her towards attainment of a master degree in Master of Public Administration from University of Science of Malaysia in the subsequent year. Miss Tan then completed her pupilage in the renowned chambers of Messrs Zaid Ibrahim & Co. She was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya in April 2008. Miss Tan started her career in the Judicial and Legal Services, Malaysia. While she was working in the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), she held the post of Deputy Public Prosecutor in Penang from March 2008 until June 2013. In the period of her service, she worked her way up from the lower criminal courts to the High Court of Penang where she prosecuted throngs of criminals of the most trivial offences to the most notorious cases including drug trafficking offences, murder and Fi****ms (Increased Penalties) Act (FIPA). One of the more renowned prosecutorial victories led by Miss Tan was the memorable conviction secured against both the accused in the 2013, case of PP v Soh Chew Tong & Chin Chui Ling for culpable homicide for starving the deceased to death, the very first case of its kind in Malaysia. As a fervent advocate for women rights, she has also joined the Women's Centre for Change in Penang as a volunteer to provide legal assistance and education to victimized women and vulnerable children. LYNETTE QUAH KOOI LYN

Lynette Quah Kooi Lyn is a licensed practitioner called to the Malaysian Bar on 16 January 2004 as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Lynette graduated and obtained her LLB (Hons) from the University of London through a distant learning programme. She then obtained the mandatory Certificate of Legal Practice before joining Messrs Paul Chong & Nathan, a then leading banking litigation firm in Malaysia, in 2003 under the pupillage of its Managing Partner Mr Hardeep Singh Jessy. Lynette was subsequently retained in the firm as an associate where she specialised in banking debt recovery, including civil, foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank Berhad, amongst others. Lynette then joined Messrs Mureli Navaratnam in 2005 where she spearheaded the newly formed conveyancing department of the legal firm which was established by a former senior partner of Messrs Ghazi & Lim, a leading law firm in Malaysia. Her major portfolio was the Seri Tanjung Pinang development which quickly became the new landmark of Penang under the development of E&O Properties. Whilst in the said firm, she also obtained guidance and knowledge in handling miscellaneous civil litigation matters from Mr Mureli himself, a former (2007-2010) Penang Bar Committee Chairman and a renowned civil litigator in the country. The corporate of world of multinational company welcomed Lynette towards 2007 where she joined Dell Asia Pacific Sdn as a Contracts Specialist. In Dell, she managed, negotiated and drafted contracts for the General Procurement department, liaising with business partners within and outside Dell in negotiating terms of various letters of intent, business contracts and statement of works. This experience has allowed her to adapt to a global environment with consistent coaching from senior directors of the company. It wasn't long before Lynette returned to the corridors of the courts when she joined Messrs Zaid Ibrahim, a leading regional law firm and Malaysia’s most prevalent legal firm in January 2008. During her tenure in Zaid Ibrahim, she gained vast experience under the guidance of the Penang office litigation partner Mr Khoo Kay Ping (author of Bankruptcy Law in Malaysia) as she led the general litigation department. Her portfolio included but not limited to arbitration matters, debt recovery for goods sold and delivered, contested banking debt recovery matters, land and estate matters, divorce proceedings, injunction applications, matters pertaining breach of trust and fiduciary duties, industrial relations matters and maritime law. Zaid Ibrahim’s clientele under her portfolio includes Bradford Systems (M) Sdn Bhd, Leader Steel (M) Sdn Bhd, Pan International Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd, Infineon Technologies, Ambank Berhad and Citibank Berhad, to name a few. In April 2010, Lynette decided to set up her own legal practice under the name and style of Messrs KL Quah & Associates, promising flexible hours and a work-life balance. As the sole proprietor of her firm she has assumed responsibilities directly to client, hence her work scope now covers marketing, direct liaison with clients, opponent lawyers, judges, other government bodies, all levels of corporations, keeping of accounts, decision making, management of a business and of course problem solving within the legal field. Her clientele includes individuals as well as corporations where other than mainstream legal practice, she specializes in research work, business writing, international business contracts, drafting and preparation of court documents. She has hands-on experience in providing website contents as well as advertisement/promotional materials for a training academy as well as excellent proofreading-cum-editing skills. Today Lynette practices from Messrs Foong & Tan, a young and dynamic set up with the objective to provide wide range and best quality professional legal services to all.
