The discovery of gold along a roadside in Nimba County sparked a rush among residents on Friday, once again highlighting the contrast between Liberia’s natural wealth and its persistent economic struggles.
On the morning of April 3, 2026, residents of Doilaye Town in District 6, Nimba County, were seen picking up pieces of gold from the ground along the main road linking Ganta to Zwedru in Grand Gedeh County.
The unexpected discovery quickly attracted a crowd, with many residents gathering at the scene in hopes of finding more of the mineral.
Some individuals attempted to dig into the road, but their efforts were swiftly halted following the intervention of state security officers, who managed to restore calm and prevent any damage.
This incident is not an isolated case in Liberia, as similar situations have been reported across the country whenever mineral deposits are discovered.
Despite being richly endowed with natural resources, including gold, Liberia continues to rank among the poorest nations in the world—raising ongoing concerns about the management and distribution of its mineral wealth. Keep following Tarlee Entertainment of Nimba for more relevant updates
