Clooney Foundation celebrates International Women’s Day today in partnership with the Association of Female Lawyers in Liberia (AFELL). The Clooney Foundation whose creation focuses on waging justice for women’s rights, through its fellow in Liberia, Atty. Peteryna Jah-Kanneh visited the Monrovia Central Prison(MCP) and the market women of red light.
In observance of this day, commitments were made for a more robust approach in the fight of justice for women’s rights. Under the theme “accelerate action for women and girls”, the fellow emphasized on the need to hold institutions accountable. During the visit at the MCP, it was clearly established that several pre- trial detainees were lingering without having a day in court. The fellow of Clooney Foundation has promised through the legal aid clinic to provide pro bono services and help these women as much as possible.
At the market, our mothers were thanked for their significant roles they play in the homes. They were thought on what domestic violence or abuse is, what domestic violence appears to be and how to speak out. It was a welcoming time and inspiring to see the interest these women have and how relatable the topic was.
Again, happy International Women’s Day!!!
