As we celebrate 15 days of the Constitution 2010, it is a reminder of the gains made, especially in the protection of human rights and freedoms. It is a reminder of the history of the pre-2010 constitutional dispensation that was coupled with human rights violations such as torture, abductions, loss of life just to name a few. It is sad that recently we have seen a return to the old constitutional dispensation ways. The zeal to change the constitution to suit the needs of a few over others is on the rise.
We therefore need to stand firm more than ever in protecting the sanctity of the Constitution. May our leaders be reminded of the spirit of the Constitution this Katiba day. May this day take us back to why the Kenyan people passed the new Constitution. As B. R. Ambedkar said "..however good a Constitution may be, it is sure to turn out bad because those who are called to work it, happen to be a bad lot. However bad a Constitution may be, it may turn out to be good if those who are called to work it, happen to be a good lot"
Happy Katiba day!
