Earlier today I joined my colleagues in the horticulture industry for the industry breakfast meeting where we deliberated on the progress of the implementation of the local standard the :2 (KS1758:2) that came into existence in 2016. As a brief, the KS1758:2 has focus on horticulture produce and seeks to give guidance/requirements on for the local/domestic market.
Till date, the success of KS1758:2 has been as a result of the increase public-private sector collaboration with the support of committed development partners. The PP collaboration has also enhanced the improvement on food safety on export and local foods.
The Kenyan adoption is in the right channel as it is set to be table in the parliament and as industry players we hope for it to pass and come into existence.
It is important for all in the agriculture value chain from producers to consumers to acknowledge that is an all inclusive responsibility and everyone has a role and task to play.
Finally, I challenge everyone today to start questioning the history of food presented to them, as through this we shall encourage traceability a key aspect of .
