Looking at the counts that have sailed through, mostly are those where the former Deputy President pronounced himself on something and which didn’t require any evidence outside what is in public domain.

Rigathi’s undoing was his “talking too much”.

This reminds me of a client I represented. He had been charged with murder. The guy was guilty even from the look of it. But I identified a loophole on the chain of custody of exhibits.

The idiot admitted expressly that the knife and the Tshirt were his. He spoke too much during cross. He was convicted.

I only saved him from a lifetime in prison by putting up a spirited fight in mitigation. He got 12 years, and since he had served 5 years in remand he had 7.

Whoever advised Riggy G to talk too much, and to call that presser after the motion had been tabled should be stoned wherever they are.

And it must be that Ndegwa Njiiru fellow!

DP’s Defense team, however good they sounded, concentrated their efforts on prosecuting the President instead of defending their client.

In my 10 years as a defense lawyer I have learnt that while defending your client, never make it about what others did that is similar to what your client did yet they have never been tried. That will not help your client’s case in any way.

1. It’s exactly 29 years since I faced the knife at Kamusiliu village on a cold August morning and admitted to manhood!

2. It’s exactly 10 years since I was admitted to the Bar.
