Njambi Chege Advocates recently had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by Ngooro Men Community Based Organization; a newly established organisation founded approximately two months ago with a strong commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of men within the community.
The event provided an excellent platform for our team to interact with members, learn more about the organisation’s objectives, and introduce our firm and the legal services we offer. Through conversations with members, we were able to create awareness about Njambi Chege Advocates and highlight how our legal expertise can support individuals, businesses and community organisations in navigating their legal needs.
Ngooro Men Community Based Organization has identified several important areas of focus, including combating alcoholism and the consumption of illicit brews, promoting security within the area, encouraging investment among its members, and promoting the welfare and well-being of members and other men within the wider community.
We were particularly encouraged by the organisation’s commitment to addressing issues that directly affect the social and economic well-being of the community. Its focus on responsible investment, security and member welfare provides a strong foundation for building a more stable and empowered community.
Our participation in the event also reinforced the importance of building relationships beyond traditional client engagements. By being present, listening to community members and engaging in meaningful conversations, Njambi Chege Advocates continues to position itself as a firm that is accessible, responsive and committed to understanding the communities it serves.
We appreciate Ngooro Men Community Based Organization for the invitation and for providing us with the opportunity to connect, engage and share our legal expertise. We look forward to building on this relationship and exploring opportunities for continued engagement with the organisation and its members.

"I have the title deed, so the land is definitely mine.” 👀

This is one of the assumptions that can make a property buyer vulnerable.

📜 A title deed is important evidence of registered ownership, but it SHOULD NOT be the only thing you rely on when buying property in Kenya.

Before committing your money, proper due diligence can help you establish:

🔎 Who is actually registered as the proprietor
📑 Whether there are charges, cautions or restrictions
📍 Whether the property details and boundaries correspond
👤 Whether the seller has the authority to sell
⚖️ Whether there are other legal issues affecting the transaction

The lesson?

Don't just ask, “Can I see the title deed?”

Ask, "Have I properly investigated this property?”

Buying property is a major investment. Do your checks BEFORE, not after, you discover a problem.

"When I pass away, my spouse automatically inherits everything….......... right?”

Not necessarily. 👀

Under Kenyan succession law, what happens to your estate depends on several factors, including whether you left a valid will, whether you have children, and the nature and ownership of the assets involved.

Assuming that your spouse automatically gets everything can create confusion, disputes and delays for your loved ones.

📜 A clear, properly prepared will can help make your wishes known.

Don’t leave your family guessing.

One of the biggest misconceptions about wills is that they are only for wealthy people.

The truth is much simpler.

Under Kenyan law, you do not have to be rich to make a will. The law does not set a minimum amount of property or wealth before someone can prepare one.

If you've ever thought, "I'll write a will when I become wealthy," you may have been relying on a common myth.

Can someone challenge a will in Kenya?

Yes—but not simply because they are unhappy with what they received.

Kenyan law allows a will to be challenged where there are legitimate legal concerns, such as lack of mental capacity, undue influence, fraud, forgery, or failure to comply with legal requirements.

Every challenge must be supported by evidence, and the court will carefully consider the facts before deciding whether the will should stand.

Preparing your will correctly today can help reduce disputes tomorrow and give your loved ones greater certainty during an already difficult time.

"I'm the eldest child, so I automatically inherit everything."

The truth is—it doesn't work that way.

In Kenya, inheritance is governed by the Law of Succession Act, not birth order. Whether someone inherits depends on several legal factors, including whether there is a valid will and who the lawful beneficiaries are.

Don't let myths create unnecessary family disputes.

If you're unsure about your rights or responsibilities after losing a loved one, seek legal advice before making important decisions.
