THE FIRE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Leviticus 6:8–13
“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”
The fire on the altar was not allowed to go out. This gives us a powerful picture of our relationship with God. Our spiritual fire must not be seasonal. We cannot live only from yesterday’s encounter with God. We need His presence every day.
The fire represents the presence, holiness, power, and work of God in our lives.
The altar represents surrender. Before there can be lasting spiritual fire, there must be a life surrendered to God. Our hearts, plans, desires, gifts, and future must be placed before Him.
The fire also represents purification. God’s fire removes what does not belong in our lives. It deals with sin, pride, bitterness, unforgiveness, disobedience, and anything that stands between us and God.
The priest had to put wood on the fire every morning. This reminds us that spiritual fire requires continual attention. We need prayer, the Word of God, worship, obedience, and fellowship with God.
The priest also removed the ashes. There are things from yesterday that we must leave behind. Past failures, disappointments, bitterness, and old habits should not occupy the altar when God wants to begin something new.
The fire was not there merely to produce an experience. It was connected to worship and sacrifice. In the same way, the fire of the Holy Spirit is not given merely for emotion. It is given to transform us, empower us, and prepare us for God’s purpose.
Do not allow the fire to go out.
Return to the altar. Seek God again. Pray again. Open His Word again. Surrender again.
Let the Holy Spirit purify your heart, renew your passion, strengthen your faith, and use your life for God’s glory.
Keep the fire burning.
