Have you heard of STI Clinics? 👀

In Australia, they are often called “Sexual Health Clinics” and specialize in STI testing, treatment, and sexual health advice.

Depending on the state and clinic, some services may be available free of charge, even for international students and working holiday makers who do not have Medicare.

Services may include:

• HIV testing
• Chlamydia testing
• Gonorrhoea testing
• Sexual health consultations
..and more.

Some clinics can also provide treatment and prescriptions if needed.

Australia places a strong focus on public health and preventing the spread of infections, which is why many sexual health services are designed to make testing as accessible as possible.

Many clinics also offer strong privacy protections, and some provide interpreter services for people who are more comfortable communicating in another language.

Keep in mind that many clinics now operate by appointment, so it's a good idea to check the clinic's website before visiting.

When starting your working holiday or study abroad journey, Facebook is one of the very first tools you’ll need to use as soon as you arrive.
Many people might be thinking, "I have an account, but I’ve barely ever used it..." 🤔

While it’s often seen as just another social media platform in Japan, it actually functions as essential everyday infrastructure in Australia.
It’s widely used for finding jobs, searching for housing, and gathering local updates. Without it, finding the right information can be a real challenge.

For working holiday makers, the three most important features to know are:

Job Hunting

Housing Hunting

Marketplace

Just knowing these three will completely change how you search for information locally.
The first step is understanding exactly how and when they are used!

While Facebook is incredibly convenient for life in Australia, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind when using it ✍️

Master Facebook to set yourself up for a smart and smooth working holiday life ✨

One thing many working holiday makers and international students struggle with in Australia is knowing where to go when they get sick😢

GP appointments can be hard to book,
ER can feel too serious,
and medical costs are often unclear at first.

That’s why it helps to know about “Nurse-led Walk-in Clinics.”

In some areas such as Queensland and the ACT,
there are walk-in clinics where you can receive care for minor conditions without an appointment💪

These clinics may help with:
• Mild colds or flu symptoms
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Minor injuries or simple treatment needs

Some clinics are also free,
and certain locations may not require Medicare.

However, these clinics are designed for minor conditions only.
Serious symptoms or cases requiring specialist treatment may still be referred to a GP or hospital.

Knowing this option in advance can make life in Australia a lot less stressful when unexpected health issues happen✨

Opening a bank account is often one of those things that gets put off during the initial rush of working holiday or student life.

"They’re all the same, right?"
If you think that, you might end up losing money without even realizing it due to monthly account fees or poor accessibility 😢

If you're choosing a bank in Australia, these "Big Four" are your safest bets:

🔥 Commonwealth: No.1 in branch/ATM access. Super convenient!
🔥 nab: No monthly account fees. Ever.
🔥 ANZ: Some branches offer Japanese language support.
🔥 Westpac: Great perks and high interest for those under 29.

The trick is to choose the one that best fits your specific lifestyle and location.

However, there are a few rules you need to know beforehand—like the "6-week rule" (it's much easier to open within 6 weeks of arrival!) and the recent requirement for your Japanese My Number.

That said, the process itself is simple and usually takes only about 20 minutes if it’s not too busy. Once it's set up, you can pay for everything with just your phone—it’s incredibly convenient! ✨

I’ve summarized all the details in my note.✨

One of the most overlooked aspects of living abroad is the "Victims of Crime Assistance Scheme."

Even if you feel safe, not knowing how to act in an emergency can lead to "suffering in silence" 😢

In Australia, each state provides comprehensive support to protect you 🔥

Subsidies for medical and counseling expenses

Compensation for loss of earnings due to time off work

Safety support, such as changing locks

These are rights available to everyone, including international students and Working Holiday makers.

Please note that there are specific rules: reporting the incident to the police is mandatory, and there are strict application deadlines.

However, the system itself is straightforward. Simply knowing that these support windows exist can make a huge difference in your peace of mind.

🇦🇺 Victims of Crime Assistance Schemes by State:

■ NSW (Sydney)

Benefits: Counseling, medical costs, loss of income, etc.

Immediate financial assistance available (depending on the situation)

Where to apply: Victims Services

■ VIC (Melbourne)

One of the more comprehensive schemes in Australia

Applications are processed through the court-based system

■ QLD (Brisbane, etc.)

Maximum payment limits apply (case-by-case)

Commonly used by the Japanese community

■ WA (Perth)

■ SA (Adelaide)

One thing that often gets overlooked before going on a working holiday or studying abroad is international money transfers.

Many people assume they can just send money through their bank, but without realizing it, you could be losing money on fees and exchange rates 😢

That’s why a lot of people use Wise 🔥

Easy to send money from your phone
Relatively low fees
Transparent exchange rates

For these reasons, it’s widely used by students and working holiday makers.

That said, there are a few things to get used to at first.
For example, mistakes when entering recipient details or the fact that transfers aren’t always instant. Knowing this in advance helps avoid trouble.

Overall, the process is simple and not difficult to use.
Once you get used to it, it becomes a very convenient tool for everyday use.

When living in Australia,
there may be situations where you don’t feel safe in your home or personal relationships 😢

In such emergencies, support services including women’s shelters are available.

Emergency arrangement of accommodation such as hotels or shelters
Support to stay with a safe family member or friend
Assistance with transport if needed

Women’s shelters provide a safe, temporary place to stay and help you rebuild your life.
For safety reasons, their locations are confidential, and residents’ privacy is strictly protected.

You don’t have to handle everything on your own.
There are support systems you can rely on when you need them.

Knowing about these services in advance can give you more options in difficult situations 🤝

When living in Australia,
it’s easy to think, “I kind of understand English, so I’ll be fine.”

But in reality,
there are many situations where you need to fully understand what’s being said—
like medical appointments, contracts, or anything related to money 😢

That’s where TIS, a free interpreting service, comes in ✨

Get an interpreter on the phone in real time
Japanese language support available
Provided by the Australian government

In other words,
it’s not about how good your English is—
it’s about whether you can understand things accurately.

It’s totally natural to want to handle things on your own, especially if you’re still learning English.

But going along with “kind of understanding” can lead to serious problems later on.

Don’t hesitate to use the support systems available to you.
That’s one of the best ways to protect yourself while living abroad.

When looking for farm jobs on a working holiday,
many people wonder, “What are working hostels really like?” 👀

They sound like a great option—accommodation plus a job, and even a chance to qualify for your 2nd visa.
But in reality, your experience can vary a lot depending on timing and conditions 😔

You might not be able to start working right away (waiting periods)
Income can be unstable
Facilities and housemates can be hit or miss

On the other hand,
for those without a car or connections,
it can be a very practical way to get started.

The key is not to blindly trust “too good to be true” offers.
Checking reviews and asking questions in advance can significantly reduce risks.

Rather than aiming for the perfect setup from the start,
it’s often better to focus on securing an environment where you can at least get moving.
