Our Tuscan taxi driver was in his 70s, and he said his dad was well into his 100s. He said his dad’s secret to a prolonged life: extra virgin olive oil (the good stuff) and a ✨tiny bit of wine per day (he said in the morning and at night…) I won’t be consuming wine each morning but I’m definitely here for the rest.

Prayerfully, regarding forced birth… the Jesus I know is a lot different than the Jesus some of you may know. The condemnation from the church is not Jesus-like. The hypocrisy of the church is not Jesus-like. The forced religious beliefs of the church upon others in order to remove reproductive rights of women? Not Jesus-like. A Jesus follower is called to care for those already alive on this side of the earth - the poor, the hungry, SA victims, orphans, immigrants, their neighbors, and even humans who don’t have the exact same religious beliefs as you. Where does that fit in your political agenda? Are you voting accordingly? Not everyone thinks the way you do. And oftentimes you manipulate your own agendas into your religion; no, you are not always right. Could this be one of those times? As someone who has worked in family law, when an underage little girl is giving testimony to you that her older brother r***d her, multiple times, and “breaking up her family” (she didn’t want to send him to jail or get him in trouble) that she was now pregnant, and that she didn’t want to have the child… I did not sit there and say, “this is God’s Will.” Putting the burden on SA victims to have to come forward, go through the court system, potentially lose the case just to be forced to have an illegal abortion, risking jail time if she doesn’t want to have that child… It’s punishing SA victims even more than the trauma they’ve already been through. I’ve never met a woman who’s had an abortion who didn’t feel shamed by the church. Not shame from God, not condemnation from Jesus (the most perfect, Most High) but just shame from those imperfect people who claim to follow Him. Majority of abortions are a pill taken by mothers in her first 6 weeks. The church divorce rates - no better. Premarital s*x in the church - no better. Alcohol & drug rates in the church - no better. Abortions rates in the church - no lower. So focus on your own “shortcomings” and being led by the spirit in your own lives and maybe the world will see you as a light rather than a dark whole of judgment, hypocrisy, condemnation, & hate.

Staying focused is important in a world that’s constantly pushing and pulling at you, telling you what you should be doing, buying, and being. We all are on different paths and have unique callings for a reason. Taking time to remind ourselves of who we are and what we want (not what everyone else wants for us) is a tip for a life with more joy, for entrepreneurs to remain fresh in serving others, and just a great reflection for all humans. Here’s how I spend my favorite weekend mornings:

1) Make coffee and light a candle.
2) Stretch and get some deep breaths in.
3) Time to get your journal out. Take an inventory of your life. What are you spending time on that is and is not bringing you joy? If possible, think of how to do less tasks that drain you.
4) Take 10 minutes to write your thoughts out before doing much else. Sometimes it will end up being half a page, or it may end up being 10 pages because I haven’t done this in a while. How are you feeling in that particular moment? What’s on your plate that’s bothering you?
5) What are you grateful for? My favorite to take note of are often the small things that easily go unnoticed.
6) How or what do you want to feel during your day — in your home? Joy…laughter…adventure…peace…patience… usually it ends up being the fruits of the spirit for me. Simply reminding myself of what they are works wonders for my day.
7) Usually by this point, I will be reminded of a lesson in the Word that I need to remind myself of that day, and I’ll go and read it. Today was the reminder to be content no matter the circumstance. I struggle with this as an entrepreneur, an enneagram 1, and INFJ — a perfectionist and advocate, always doing various iterations on how to improve systems and situations around me, avoiding rest, problem solving all day, etc., anyway…I will let it soak in and write about what I’m gleaning from it.

I truly believe this little morning routine has the power to change the trajectory of lives, change homes, & birth new ideas. It’s certainly not reinventing the wheel, but it has served my well for years and years.

I didn’t see many lawyers going above and beyond the basic relationship of dissociated lawyer who couldn’t care less, who had grown desensitized and was not excited to help others, simply viewing clients as dollar signs. Putting quantity of clients over quality of work. Caseloads overflowing to the point where work was done shoddily.

I know how awful that experience can be for the client - because I’ve been both a client, an associate at other law firms, and a law firm owner. I saw so many gaps that needed improvement to enhance the client’s experience.
