Telangana High Court on 23.07.025, in an interim order, directed the Kaloji Narayanana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) and the state of Telangana to consider a group of petitioners for registration into the admission process as local candidates pending adjudication of the ongoing writ petition.
The bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice P Sam Koshy was hearing a batch of petitions that challenged the notification and prospectus dated July 15, 2025, issued by the KNRUHS which mandates a four-year study or residency period in Telangana for "Local" candidate status for admission into under graduate courses under competent authority quotas in Telangana.
The petitioners contended that the registration process is going to end by 25 July and expressed apprehension that unless the university treats them as “Local” candidates, they would not be able to participate in the counselling process for convenor seats. The constitutional and legal validity of Rule 3 (a) of the Telangana Medical and Dental Colleges Admission (Admission into MBBS and BDS courses) Rules 2017, as amended vide GO Ms 33 of the Health Medical and Family Welfare department, dated 19 July 2024, is challenged on the ground that it is violative of Articles 14, 19 and 21 of Constitution of India.
