IMPORTANT CASES OF SCI 📌 *Harish Rana v. Union of India, 2026*
The Supreme Court permitted withdrawal of life support for a patient in a vegetative state. It held artificial nutrition and hydration can be withdrawn as medical treatment. The Court mandated safeguards like medical board approval and expert opinion. This case operationalised the right to die with dignity under Article 21.

📌 *National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India, 2026*
The Court recognised transgender persons as the third gender. It held gender identity is self-determined under fundamental rights. Medical or surgical procedures are not required for recognition. It directed the State to provide equal rights and welfare measures.

📌 *Hamsaanandini Nanduri v. Union of India, 2026*
The Court struck down Section 60(4) of the Social Security Code, 2020. It removed the 3-month age limit for adoptive mothers’ maternity leave. The provision was held violative of Articles 14 and 21. It recognised maternity benefits as a human right.
