⚖️ Madras High Court Quashes SHRC Order in Lois Sofia Case

The Madras High Court has set aside the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission’s order directing the State Government to pay ₹2 lakh compensation to Lois Sofia in the 2018 airport slogan case.

The Court held that the SHRC failed to properly establish a human rights violation and that compensation cannot be awarded without clear proof of illegal detention or abuse of power.

⚖️ Madras High Court Acquits Woman in Husband’s Murder Case

The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) acquitted a woman who had earlier been sentenced to life imprisonment for the alleged murder of her husband.

The Court held that Section 106 of the Indian Evidence Act cannot replace the prosecution’s duty to prove guilt. The prosecution failed to establish the “last seen together” theory and the complete chain of circumstances.

The High Court ruled that suspicion alone cannot lead to conviction and set aside the life sentence.
