It's early days yet for this windfarm development in Lemanaghan but we are already dealing with enquiries from local landowners.

With this proposal and the company's continuing progress on its windfarms in Derrinlough and Cloncreen, Bord na Mona's investment in renewable energy has the potential to greatly benefit Offaly farm families and the communities in which they live, not to mention the dividends these multiple schemes might bring in terms of reducing Ireland's dependence on carbon-based fuels.

Well worth reading this article by Noeline Blackwell of the Dublin R**e Crisis Centre on the use of character references in r**e trials and the archaic idea of “respectability”.

“Our legal system which personalises sentences to take account of aggravating and mitigating factors is a good one. It is important that we recognise the particular circumstances of each case. But it does need adjustment...It is hard to see the value to a court of opinions about a defendant’s respectability from another person.
Such references come from a time when the legal system had strong, if narrow views on who was respectable and worth hearing, and who was not.”
