It all started in 2016 when we found it very difficult and overwhelming to find accurate information on how to get married in Europe. After going through this arduous process and finally getting married in Northern Ireland, we decided to share our experience and posted our story on a Facebook group to inform and help couples who were in a similar position of when we tried getting married. Soon aft

er, people started contacting us asking for help. From 2016 to 2017 we helped hundreds of couples who needed straightforward information for their own processes. After helping those couples, we were encouraged by them to open our own consultancy. At first, we were a bit reluctant since our focus was just to help others, and not turn it into a business. However, as it got very demanding and this was taking away a lot of our free time since we were both working full time, we decided that it was time to make it formal by opening a business. Sometime later, we started supporting couples with their weddings in multiple locations, as well as providing support for individuals with their residence visas and employment permit applications. Since the beginning, MWeds has grown significantly in terms of improving its processes, making weddings and visas simpler and more straightforward for couples and individuals. As a team, we consult people from all over the world in getting married in Denmark, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland and Brazil. Also, we are happy to help individuals with their Irish Residence permits and Employment Permits in Ireland.

“If I already have a European passport… does Irish citizenship still make sense?” 🇮🇪

The short answer:
Not always from an immigration perspective,
but for many people, it can still be a very important long-term decision.

For immigrants who have built a life in Ireland, Irish citizenship can represent:
✔️ More long-term stability
✔️ A stronger connection with the country
✔️ More security for the future
✔️ Better integration for you and your family

And there’s another important point that many people don’t realise:
Because of the Common Travel Area (CTA) agreement between Ireland and the UK, Irish citizens can live and work in the United Kingdom without needing a UK visa or immigration permission 🇬🇧

So if living in the UK is something you may consider in the future, Irish citizenship can become a huge advantage.

Sometimes citizenship is not just about a passport, it’s about the future you want to build.

This is the first video in a series where we’ll be talking more about Irish citizenship and answering common questions about the process.

As many of you asked, today we’re explaining this real case in more detail and how gaps in your immigration history can affect future applications.

If you lived in Ireland during the COVID period, there’s a chance you may have gaps in your immigration records 👀

And YES, this can later affect applications such as:
🇮🇪 Irish passport applications
🇮🇪 Irish citizenship

In this real case, a child’s Irish passport application was almost affected because of a missing IRP record linked to COVID extensions.

The important thing to understand is:
a gap does not always mean refusal,
but knowing how to properly explain and structure your case can make a huge difference ✅

Share this with someone who lived in Ireland during the COVID period 🇮🇪

A child’s Irish passport application was almost refused because of a gap in immigration records.

Both parents are non-EU nationals living in Ireland. 🇮🇪
One parent initially held residence permission based on an Employment Permit before later obtaining Stamp 4 permission.

The issue was not a lack of lawful residence.
The issue was how the case had been structured and how the immigration timeline was being interpreted.

During the COVID period, many people experienced:
• delayed renewals,
• missing IRP registrations,
• employment permit processing backlogs,
• administrative gaps in immigration history.

Years later, these issues can suddenly affect:
🇮🇪 Irish passport applications
🇮🇪 Irish naturalisation
🇮🇪 Long-term residence assessments

In this real case, the Passport Office initially confirmed only 32 months of reckonable residence, when 36 months were required.
At first glance, this could have resulted in refusal.

After carefully analysing:
✔️ COVID extension measures
✔️ employment permit history
✔️ PAYE continuity
✔️ immigration timelines
✔️ supporting documentation

…the case was properly reframed and the passport was approved.

Cases involving Employment Permits, Stamp permissions and reckonable residence calculations are often far more technical than people realise.

Immigration is frequently much more than simply uploading documents.

Sometimes, the outcome depends on:
👉 how the case is explained
👉 how the evidence is organised
👉 and whether the timeline makes sense to the decision-maker

Every detail matters ✅

If you have concerns about gaps in your immigration history or lawful residence record, seek proper guidance before submitting your application.

Comment “GAP” or send us a message if your case is not straightforward.
