Bali is a freshwater paradise, known for its stunning coastline and impressive lakes. While Lake Batur, Lake Beratan, and the Twin Lakes are among the most famous, the island also boasts lesser-known treasures, including the recently restored Yeh Malet Lake.
Situated in Banjar Yeh Malet, Antiga Kelod Village, and Manggis District, Yeh Malet Lake had been nearly forgotten for 27 years. However, following extensive restoration efforts, this beautiful lake is now open to the public once again.
Thanks to the hard work of a dedicated team of 50 individuals, including members of Indonesian Army Battalion 741 and local residents, the lake and its surrounding area have been revitalized. Over two months, they cleaned up 10 hectares of the lake, transforming it into a safe and appealing destination for both locals and tourists.
Major Inf Dewa Oka, the Head of Information for the 163rd Wira Satya Military Command, noted that the lake had been heavily overgrown with grass, weeds, and water hyacinth, obstructing its natural functions. Now, with the cleanup complete, the lake is ready for visitors to enjoy swimming and fishing.
The cleaning operation also restored the natural spring that feeds the lake, which had been blocked due to the overgrowth. With the revitalization complete, Major Oka confirmed, “Now the lake is ready for tourists to enjoy.”
Ida Ayu Indah Yustikarini, the Head of Marketing for the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the army and local communities in bringing the lake back to life. She hopes Yeh Malet Lake will become a new tourist attraction in East Bali, particularly for Karangasem Regency, known for its breathtaking landscapes and panoramic views of Mount Agung.
Visitors planning to explore Karangasem Regency will find a wealth of natural wonders. Yeh Malet Lake is just a three-minute drive inland from Yeh Malet Beach, a tranquil black sand beach offering stunning sunrise and sunset views away from the tourist crowds.
Culture enthusiasts can also visit the famous Goa Lawah Cave, located only a five-minute drive from both the lake and the beach. This renowned bat cave temple is a must-see during a tour of East Bali.
For those wanting to explore these hidden gems while staying in more established accommodations, Padangbai is an excellent choice. Just a 15-minute drive from Yeh Malet Lake, Yeh Malet Beach, and Goa Lawah Temple, Padangbai offers a fantastic coastal escape and serves as a gateway to the Nusa Islands, making it the perfect destination for a nature-rich, culturally abundant, affordable, and accessible vacation in Bali!
