đź’°Starting a Business in Georgia Now Requires GEL 50,000. GEL
Yes, You Read That Correctly.
You've probably heard Georgia is one of the easiest places in the world to register a company. And you're right the registration itself still costs GEL 400.
But registration is no longer the finish line.
As of March 1, 2026, foreign nationals who live in Georgia and run a business here must prove GEL 50,000 in annual turnover or they cannot legally obtain the Labour Residence Permit required to operate.
No turnover. No permit. No legal business.
This affects you if you are:
→ An LLC founder living in Georgia
→ A company director based in Georgia
→ A self-employed freelancer or contractor in Georgia
Under the new law, all of the above are classified as self-employed, and self-employed foreign nationals must clear the GEL 50,000 threshold to stay compliant.
Fines for non-compliance start at GEL 2,000 per person and multiply for repeat violations. Enforcement began May 1, 2026.
🔍 One exception worth knowing:
If you incorporated in Georgia but don't physically reside here, the GEL 50,000 requirement does not apply to you.
The rules changed. The risks are real. And the window to act is now!
