Valentine’s Day at work ❤️

Cards on desks. Jokes in the kitchen. Maybe even flowers at reception.

Harmless right? Not always.

With the new duty on employers to actively prevent sexual harassment, the legal risk around workplace relationships has shifted.

It is no longer enough to deal with issues once a complaint lands on HR’s desk. Employers are now expected to anticipate risk, set boundaries, and take reasonable steps before something goes wrong.

That includes:
• Office romances
• “Work wife” and “work husband” dynamics
• Client and third-party behaviour
• Valentine’s Day gestures that cross a line for the person on the receiving end

An outright ban on workplace relationships might feel like the safest option, but it often creates more problems than it solves. Silence, secrecy, power imbalances and unmanaged behaviour are where real risk lives 💔

Strong relationships are built face to face – and York is one of the most perfect places to do just that.

Earlier today, Associate Director Khal Shahjahan met with Rachel Mackenzie, BD Development Director at One Stop Business Finance Limited, to continue building on our strong and established working relationship.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of York, and enjoying a working brunch in the vibrant surroundings of Bettys Café Tea Rooms, it was the ideal setting for great conversation, good food, and future-focused discussions.

A special welcome back to Rachel too, following her return from maternity leave – already hitting the ground running, she is a shining example for working mothers everywhere!
