The UK government’s Restoring Control Over the Immigration System white paper (May 2025) introduces sweeping reforms to reduce net migration and prioritise “high-skilled” labour through a tightened points-based system. While aiming to control immigration, the measures have disproportionate and adverse implications for Filipino and Southeast/East Asian migrant workers, many of whom are employed in sectors now deemed ineligible or undesirable under the new rules.
