What happens during a commercial site survey?
Before recommending a security or access solution, we need to understand the site.

We look at:
Access points – where people and vehicles enter.
Site layout – available space and vehicle movement.
Existing equipment – what's already there and its condition.
Security requirements – what needs to be controlled or monitored.
Future needs – how the site may change.

A proper survey helps make sure the solution fits the site, rather than the other way around.

Thinking about getting an automated gate?

Before you choose your gate, have you checked who is installing it?

An automated gate isn’t just about how it looks or how smoothly it opens and closes. Safety should be part of the conversation from the very beginning.

Ask yourself:

🔎 Is your installer trained in gate safety?
🛠️ Do they understand what makes an automated gate safe?

At Gate Safe, we provide dedicated gate safety training to help installers understand the principles of safe gate design, installation and maintenance.

So, before you commit to an installer, why not check?

👉 Search our interactive online map and see if your installer has completed Gate Safe training.

It only takes a few moments to check - and it could be an important step towards making sure your new automated gate is designed and installed with safety in mind.

🔎 Find our find installer page on our website

The gate problems you shouldn't ignore... have you noticed any of these?

Unusual noises (grinding, squeaking, knocking or humming)
Slower movement
Jerky or uneven movement –
Stopping or reversing unexpectedly
Gates no longer closing or lining up properly

None of these necessarily means you need a major repair or replacement. But catching a problem early is usually better than waiting until the gates stop working altogether.

September is a good time to review your site security.

As we head towards the end of the year, it's worth taking a fresh look at your site.

Ask yourself:
Who currently has access?
Are all access points secure?
When was the gate last serviced?
Is your CCTV still covering what it needs to?
What happens if your main entrance fails?

Your business may have changed since your security system was installed.
Has your security kept up?

When you're looking at automating your gates at home, it's easy to focus on the gate itself... what it looks like, how big it is and what type it is.

But the automation needs to work with your property and how you actually use it.

A few things we consider are:
🔄 How often the gates are used - A family coming and going several times a day needs a different solution to a gate that's only opened occasionally.
⚡ Opening speed - The right system should give you the convenience you want without compromising safe operation.
📐 Your driveway layout - The space available, the position of the gates and where vehicles need to move can all influence which automation is most suitable.

The best automation is the one that's properly matched to the gate, the property and the people using it.

If you're thinking about automating your existing gates, it's always worth getting the setup assessed before choosing the equipment.

It's easy to look at a set of gates and think, "We'll just put a motor on those." But there's a lot more to getting an automated gate working properly than choosing a motor and bolting it on.

Before Rotor Pixel Technologies recommend anything, the team look at things like:
📐 Gate geometry – where the motor needs to sit and how the gate needs to move.
⛰️ The slope – changes in ground level can have a big impact on how a gate opens and closes.
📏 Available space – there needs to be enough room for the gates and automation to operate safely and effectively.
⚖️ Weight – the size and weight of the gates will determine what type of automation is suitable.

They've come across plenty of entrances where the obvious installation simply wouldn't have been the right solution. That's why they assess the gates and the property first, then work out how the automation should work around them.

The aim isn't just to make the gates move. It's to make sure they move safely, reliably and properly for the long term.

Got existing gates you're considering automating? What do you think would be the biggest challenge with your entrance?

If you've got automatic gates at home, there are a few things that might seem like small details, but are always worth keeping an eye on.

🔌 Exposed wiring – wiring should be protected from the weather and accidental damage.

🪵 Materials starting to deteriorate – mounting boards, fixings and other materials can weather over time, particularly when they're constantly exposed to the elements.

⚙️ Rubbing or catching mechanisms – gates should move smoothly. If you notice rubbing, unusual noises or the gate working harder than it used to, it's worth getting it checked.

None of these necessarily mean you have a major problem, but they're good reminders that automatic gates are mechanical systems and need a little attention from time to time.

Have you noticed any of these on your gates? Contact Rotor Pixel Technologies to book an inspection - https://rotorpixeltechnologies.com/

Another phase of Paxton10 Access Control completed during the school holidays. 🔐🏫

This phase saw us expanding the existing system with a combination of Paxton10 door controllers and PaxLock Pro wireless electronic handles, allowing us to select the most appropriate solution for each door while keeping everything managed through one central Paxton10 platform.

The school holidays provide the ideal opportunity to carry out projects like this, giving our engineers access to work efficiently while keeping disruption to staff and pupils to an absolute minimum.

With the equipment prepared, installed and commissioned, another section of the site is now brought onto the access control system – improving security, simplifying the management of users and credentials, and providing a platform that can continue to grow as further phases are completed.

Another productive summer holiday project for the Rotor Pixel team.
