If you or your partner have stepchildren and you want them to inherit after you die, it’s vital that you make a Will.

If you don’t write a Will, you’ll die ‘intestate’ and all of your assets will become subject to the “rules of intestacy”. This would mean stepchildren being overlooked and receiving nothing.

After a meeting with a couple this morning the husband said, “I wish we had sorted this out years ago”. It’s not the first and won’t be the last time I’ve heard that said!

Thankfully, we have managed to put in place Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) to make sure that their loved ones will be able to look after them if they lose mental capacity. After 1st death if the survivor needs Long Term Care, we have also made sure that a large portion of the family home can be fully protected.

It doesn’t take long to get these documents arranged, but if left too late our hands are tied and we are unable to help.
