Thanks so much for all of the support so far. Our petition has already received 200 signatures!!

For anyone who has not yet done so, please join the Woodroyd to Rose Grove PROW Advocates in our effort to reinstate the blocked public right of way by liking our page, sharing posts, and signing and sharing our petition. The path, once a vital connection to the canaland Sowerby Bridge for over 70 years, was closed off by the owner of Woodlands Manor, and despite concerns being raised and the violation of Highway Code being reported, Calderdale Council has yet to take action. Your support is crucial in demanding the reinstatement of this pathway.

Woodlands Manor’s owner closed off the Woodroyd to Rose Grove PROW in 2011, denying residents a longstanding and essential connection. We believe in the right of the community to access public pathways, and it’s time to rectify this closure.

Despite the closure violating the Highway Code, Calderdale Council has not taken adequate action. We urge the council to enforce the law and prioritize the well-being of the community by reopening this public right of way.

This is a very similar story from Norfolk. A pathway was blocked and the council did the right thing and recognised the public right of way. Calderdale Council should learn from this story and side with the people and their right to access public spaces.

Once a footpath always a footpath.

Here is a 1948 aerial photograph clearly showing the footpath in its current position looking very well trodden and established.

This path remained in use until Woodland Manor was built (2011) and blocked access.

Please continue to show your support of the cause and help us hold Calderdale Council accountable to make this right. The 13 years this has dragged on for is unacceptable. People cannot use money to take away our rights to access public footpaths that have been in use for over 75 years.

Here are 2 ordnance survey maps 1947 (top) and 1949 (bottom). The 1949 map shows the addition of a pathway granting access to High Royd Wood. This predates any housing on Rose Grove Lane. This is clear evidence that the footpath has been in existence since at least 1949.

These photos show that the gentleman in question has fenced off areas not even on his property and blocked the path using extremely unsafe methods
