Navigating the financial side of a divorce can feel overwhelming, but understanding your legal duties is essential.

In England & Wales, both parties have a duty to provide full and frank financial disclosure, covering everything from properties and income to pensions, investments, and liabilities (often setting this out in Form E).

Want to know what this means for your settlement? Read our latest blog for a clear breakdown of the rules and what you need to prepare.

The government has launched a major consultation aimed at giving stronger legal rights and financial security to the UK's 3.5+ million cohabiting couples.

For years, the "common law marriage" has been a persistent myth. Under current laws, unmarried partners who live together face significant financial vulnerabilities if they separate or if a partner passes away without a Will.

The proposed reforms aim to change that by exploring:
Automatic inheritance rights if a partner dies without a Will.
Clearer financial remedies and property protections upon separation.
Stronger safeguards for survivors of domestic and economic abuse.

While these proposals are a welcome step toward a legal system that reflects modern relationships, the law has not changed yet.

If you are cohabiting, you don't have to wait for the law to catch up. Protect your family and your assets today by considering:

A Cohabitation Agreement to clearly define your financial arrangements.
A valid, updated Will to protect your partner's future.

Want to understand how these proposed changes might affect you, or need help securing your family's future? Get in touch with our expert family law team at KLR Solicitors today.

Going through a separation when you've dedicated your time to raising a family can feel incredibly overwhelming, especially when you start thinking about the future.

If you are a stay-at-home parent navigating a divorce in England or Wales, it is vital to know that the law values your contribution to the home just as much as financial contributions. You have clear legal rights when it comes to:

Housing: Ensuring you and your children have a secure place to live.
Finances & Maintenance: Assessing spousal and child support to cover daily living costs.
Pensions: Accessing a fair share of built-up pensions through sharing or offsetting.
Child Arrangements: Striking a balance that prioritizes the well-being and routine of your children.

Don't navigate this chapter alone or in the dark. Read the full guide to understand exactly where you stand:
