Before and after from a recent fencing job.

Before the lads had even packed up, three neighbouring properties had already booked us in after seeing the work going in.

That’s always the best feedback we can get.

With spring approaching, availability is tightening up quickly.

If you’re thinking about replacing fencing, repairing storm damage, or upgrading tired panels, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.

If parts of your lawn are still soft underfoot or holding water, this weather is telling you something important.

Boggy patches and persistent pooling are rarely surface problems. They usually mean water has nowhere to go below ground. And once the soil is saturated, every new rainfall pushes the problem wider and deeper. What starts as a damp corner often becomes a lawn you avoid using altogether.

Winter is actually the best time to deal with this. With the ground at its wettest, it is easier to see how water is moving, where it is getting trapped and what system will fix it properly. That means the solution is designed for real conditions, not guesswork.

Leaving it until spring often means more damage, more mess and a bigger job once the lawn has already suffered.

If your garden has been slow to drain this season and you want it sorted before things get worse, we are booking drainage assessments and winter installations now.

Get in touch to book a visit and get the problem dealt with properly while conditions make it clear.

Fencing only really gets your attention when the weather starts testing it.

Days of wind and rain quickly show which boundaries were installed properly and which ones were not. Shallow posts shift. Older panels flex. Small gaps appear where there used to be clean lines. Once that movement starts, it rarely stops on its own.

Strong fencing is not just about how it looks on day one. It is about depth, alignment and materials that can cope with Kent and West Sussex weather year after year. When posts are set properly and everything is fixed true, the boundary stays straight, secure and quiet even in rough conditions.

If your fencing has been creaking, leaning or catching your eye lately, winter is the right time to deal with it. The ground tells the truth, and problems are easier to fix before they turn into full replacements.

Get in touch today if you would like a quote for fencing repairs or upgrades while winter conditions make the issues clear.

Winter Garden & Lawn Care: A Few Small Jobs Now Save Big Problems Later

Winter is when gardens quietly drift out of shape. A bit of attention now keeps things manageable come spring.

3 simple winter garden and lawn care tips

• Keep lawns clear - Leaves left sitting on grass block light and trap moisture, leading to bare patches and moss. Regular clearing makes a real difference.

• Avoid compacting wet ground - Try not to walk repeatedly on soggy lawns or borders. Compacted soil struggles to drain and recover once growth returns.

• Tidy, don’t overcut - Light pruning and cut-backs are fine, but avoid heavy cuts. Plants need some protection through colder snaps.

5 things we focus on at Price & Hatch this time of year

• Lawn care and moss control to protect grass through wet, cold months

• Leaf clearance and garden tidy-ups before paths and lawns suffer

• Fence checks and storm damage repairs after wind and rain

• Drainage checks and water flow improvements to prevent flooding and boggy areas

• Winter pruning and border maintenance to set gardens up for spring

Winter work is about prevention, not perfection. A little care now saves time, money, and stress later.

If your garden needs a tidy-up, repairs, or a winter check-over, Price & Hatch cover Kent and West Sussex with reliable, practical garden and property care.

It is amazing what a difference a proper winter tidy can make.

This is the time of year when the garden often gets pushed to the bottom of the list. Leaves pile up, borders lose their shape and everything starts to feel a bit tired. Then the reality sets in that guests will soon be visiting, whether that is family, friends or even the man in red himself.

The good news is that it is not too late to get things looking sharp. A simple winter clear-out, leaf removal and reset can make the whole garden feel cared for again. It is one of the quickest ways to lift the look of your outdoor space before the festive season arrives.

If you would like the garden looking its best before visitors descend, we still have a few slots available for winter tidy-ups.

Get in touch now if you would like to book in. A little work now makes a big difference over Christmas.

If you have noticed parts of your lawn turning boggy or holding water this week, that is your early warning sign.

Most gardens across Kent and West Sussex are sitting on the wettest ground they will have all year. When the soil is saturated like this, even a small dip or slow-moving gully becomes a problem that does not correct itself. It only grows. By the time spring arrives, those soft patches are often twice the size and far harder to fix.

The truth is, drainage is one of those jobs you only think about when a problem appears. And once you see it, you already know it will not go away on its own. Every bit of rain pushes the water further into the same weak spots, and the longer it sits there, the more it damages the lawn and the soil beneath it.

Winter is the best time to sort it because we can diagnose the issue accurately while the ground is wet, and put in the right system before the heavy spring rainfall arrives.

If you want this sorted now rather than dealing with a bigger issue later, we are opening a few extra slots for drainage assessments and winter installs.

Get in touch to book your slot. Once the ground dries, these problems only get harder and more expensive to repair.

There is always that moment before friends or family come over when you suddenly see the garden with fresh eyes.

In day-to-day life it is easy to overlook the beds that need a reset, the leaves collecting in corners or the hedges that have drifted out of shape. But when you know people are visiting, those little things start to stand out more than usual. You look outside and think, “I really don’t want them to see it like this,” followed quickly by, “But when am I going to find the time to sort it?”

That quiet pressure builds every year. Especially in winter, when the jobs feel heavier and the days are shorter.

If you want the garden looking tidy and cared for before guests arrive, we can step in and handle the winter jobs for you. A simple clear-out or a full reset can make the whole place feel calmer and more welcoming.

Local, reliable and straightforward.

This time of year always seems to speed up.

One minute it is early November, then suddenly Christmas is around the corner and every spare hour disappears.

For a lot of people, the garden becomes one of those jobs they mean to tackle but never quite get to. Leaves build up, beds start to look tired, hedges need a tidy and the whole space feels a bit forgotten. Not because you don’t care, but because everything else takes priority in the run-up to Christmas.

Most homeowners have the same thought:
“I should get this sorted, but when am I actually going to find the time now?”

If you would rather save those hours for family, work or simply breathing room before the festive season, we can step in and take the winter jobs off your hands.

A quick tidy, a full clear-out or a proper reset before the holidays makes the whole property feel calmer and ready for the months ahead.

Local, reliable and no pressure. Just help when you need it.

Funny how one bit of sunshine after a run of grey days makes you really notice the garden again.

You look out and suddenly the small winter jobs stand out. A few tired beds. Leaves that never fully cleared. Hedges creeping out a bit more than you thought. Nothing major, but enough to think, “I should probably sort this before spring.”

The challenge is finding the time, especially with short days and wet ground. And those small winter jobs always grow once the weather warms.

If today’s clear weather has made you aware of a few things, we can help tidy everything up while it is still manageable. Local, practical and no pressure.

Send us a message or give us a call if you would like a hand getting the garden settled before spring arrives.

With the ground saturated and wind gusts hitting 40 to 55 mph on days like today, older fence posts can shift by several millimetres in a single afternoon. Once posts start moving, panels loosen, gaps open up and full sections can fail without warning.

Around 30 percent of storm-related home repair callouts in the South East are fencing issues, and most happen between December and February when the soil is soft and wind pressure is highest.

If your fencing is leaning, rattling or showing signs of wear, now is the best time to get it checked. Winter is ideal for assessing movement and securing posts properly so your boundary is ready for the next round of bad weather.

If you would like a free check or quote for fencing repair or replacement, send us a message and we can take a look.
