Thinking about buying a property at auction?

It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of a bargain... but once that hammer falls, you're legally committed.

Auction purchases move much faster than a standard property transaction, and if you haven't done your homework beforehand, it can become a very expensive lesson.

Before you register to bid, make sure you know:

🔹 What the legal pack contains
🔹 Why a survey is still important
🔹 How quickly you'll need to complete
🔹 The hidden costs many buyers don't budget for

Our property lawyer, Aimee, specialises in auction property purchases and helps buyers navigate the tight deadlines and legal complexities that come with them. Getting legal advice before auction day can make all the difference.

If you're considering buying at auction, take a few minutes to read our latest blog before you raise your paddle.

Some gifts are far more than objects. They're powerful reminders of our shared history.

We were incredibly honoured to be gifted one of the original ceramic poppies from the Tower of London's iconic 2014 Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation.

Each handcrafted poppy represents a life lost during the First World War, serving as a lasting symbol of sacrifice, remembrance, and gratitude. It is a privilege to display such a meaningful piece, and it will hold a special place in our office.

Thank you to Kate & Paul for this thoughtful and generous gift. We will treasure it and the story it represents for many years to come.

One signature. One ceremony. One groom who never came home. 🇫🇷💔 The story behind France's posthumous marriage law is both tragic and fascinating.

France introduced measures that allowed some women to marry fiancés who died in wartime, a practice that later evolved into the country's modern posthumous marriage law.

Today is a really special day for us at JB Property Law.

We're incredibly proud to officially launch

You might be wondering why a property law firm has launched a campaign about employment. The truth is, it started with our clients.

As a business that specialises in supporting the Armed Forces community, we've met so many talented military spouses, veterans and individuals whose careers don't fit the "traditional" mould.

We've seen people overlooked because they've moved around the country, taken career breaks, supported their families through military life or simply followed a different path.

Yet those same people often possess some of the qualities every employer says they're looking for:

✨ Resilience
✨ Adaptability
✨ Loyalty
✨ Leadership
✨ Organisation
✨ Problem-solving

A CV can tell you where someone has worked. It rarely tells you everything they've had to overcome to get there.

That's why we've created Beyond the CV. It's a free initiative encouraging employers to look beyond career gaps, postcode changes and non-traditional career journeys, and instead recognise the skills, potential and lived experience people bring to the workplace.

If you're an employer, HR professional or business owner, we'd love you to take a look at our Employer Charter and join us in creating fairer opportunities for everyone.

Together, we can help ensure that talent is recognised for what people are capable of, not simply where they've been.

Because sometimes the most impressive part of a CV is everything it took to achieve it.

I just need some new socks... Most people needing new socks head to the supermarket. Not in this house.

Apparently, the only logical place to buy socks for military events is the The Duke Of Lancaster's Regiment Shop.

One pair of socks later... "Well, while I'm here..." You can probably guess how that ended. 😂

At this rate, the next step will be painting the house in regimental colours and flying the regimental flag in the front garden! 🏡🚩

I suppose there are worse hobbies to have. After all, every purchase helps support the regiment and keeps its history and traditions alive.

Living with a veteran is never boring and apparently, neither is buying socks! ❤️

If you're looking for regimental gifts, clothing or memorabilia, it's well worth taking a look at the official shop:

A Small Brooch with a Big Story

Sweetheart brooches have a long and meaningful history. Traditionally, they were given by serving soldiers to their wives, sweethearts, mothers, or daughters as a token of love, remembrance, and pride. They became especially popular during the First and Second World Wars, worn directly over the heart while loved ones were away, serving their country.

Each brooch represented far more than a regiment. It carried hope, loyalty, courage, and the promise of home. For many families, these little pieces of jewellery became treasured heirlooms, holding memories of service and sacrifice across generations.

Because my husband's regiment, the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, was newly formed in 2006 through the amalgamation of three historic regiments. The King's Own Royal Border Regiment (his original regiment), The King's Regiment, and the Queen's Lancashire Regiment there are no historical sweetheart brooches that bear the Duke of Lancaster's badge itself.

That makes this modern sweetheart brooch even more special to me. While it may not have the age of some of the older regimental pieces, it represents the regiment my husband proudly served with and carries the same symbolism of love, loyalty, service, and remembrance that sweetheart brooches have represented for generations.

For me, it is more than a beautiful keepsake. It's a quiet nod to the heritage, history, and sacrifices of our family. It honours those who served, those who supported them from home, and the generations whose stories helped shape our own.

Some treasures aren't valuable because of what they're made from, they're valuable because of what they represent.

*Purchased from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment shop. A small piece of regimental history that I'll treasure for years to come.

Orders will be processed within five full working days of order receipt. All deliveries may be affected during busy periods or for items that are not in stock.

Every business has a story. JB Property Law's story begins with one person who believed that conveyancing could be done differently.

Meet Joanne Bowmer - Founder, Director, Consultant Property Lawyer & Head of Military Property

With more than 20 years' experience in residential property law, Joanne's career didn't begin in a boardroom. It began as an office junior, studying in the evenings and working her way through every role in a law firm before becoming a Partner. That journey shaped the lawyer she is today and the values JB Property Law was built upon.

Joanne founded JB Property Law in 2022 with a simple vision: to create a law firm where clients are treated as people, not file numbers. One built on communication, honesty, empathy and genuine relationships. Today, the firm continues to grow, but those values remain exactly the same.

Alongside residential conveyancing, Joanne has become recognised for her work supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families. As the wife of an Army veteran, military life isn't something she's learned from a textbook. The deployments, relocations, uncertainty and sacrifices experienced by military families inspired her to build one of the UK's few law firms dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces community through property transactions.

Joanne also has a passion for the unusual side of property law, particularly unregistered land, historic title deeds and complex conveyancing matters. Growing up in a family of historians sparked a lifelong fascination with the stories hidden within old documents. Something that now helps clients facing challenging property issues.

Today, Joanne leads a growing team, mentors aspiring legal professionals, supports community projects, and continues to personally represent every military client who places their trust in JB Property Law.

Because for Joanne, conveyancing has never simply been about buying and selling houses.

- Because talent deserves to be recognised, not overlooked.

At JB Property Law, we don't just talk about supporting the Armed Forces community, we actively invest in it.

This week, after advertising a flexible fully remote role, we received 121 applications from military spouses. That wasn't just an overwhelming response. It was proof of something we've believed for a long time. There is an incredible pool of talent that is too often overlooked.

Military spouses aren't changing jobs because they lack commitment. They're adapting to postings, deployments and the realities of service life. Every move means rebuilding careers, learning new systems, making new professional connections and proving themselves all over again.

Those experiences don't make someone a risk.

They make them resilient.
They make them adaptable.
They make them exceptional.

That's why today we're proud to launch

It's our campaign encouraging employers, recruiters and businesses to look beyond employment gaps and postcode histories, and instead recognise the skills, determination and professionalism that military spouses bring to every role.

If you've ever recruited staff, or you're simply curious about why this matters, we'd love you to read our first blog and join the conversation.

https://www.joannebowmer.co.uk/post/beyond-the-cv

If you're an employer, we'd encourage you to think differently the next time a military spouse lands on your desk. You may just find your next outstanding employee.

Together, let's start looking

Every so often, I climb on my high horse. So much so I might aswell just join the mounted cavalry. Today, I'm staying there. As the founder of JB Property Law, I spend my days supporting members of the Armed Forces community whith property matters. Running a Forces business isn't just about offering a service it's about understanding the unique challenges that come with military life. Whether it's deployments, postings, uncertainty, or starting over.

That's why it's always a pleasure to see another forces business giving it a real shake. Not only are they building something to be proud of, but they're creating a space where people feel supported, listened to, and understood.

Success isn't just measured by what you sell. It's measured by the difference you make in someone's day and the community you build around you.

If you're looking for a business that genuinely cares as much as it delivers, I'd encourage you to take a look and show them some support. Small acts of encouragement within our military community go a long way.

Here's to lifting each other up, celebrating each other's successes, and proving that together, we're stronger. We can create something far more valuable than a business, we create a community.

Well done Nadine and everyone at Forces Family Finance
