Why the best time for a winter roof check is... right now. ☀️🏠

It might seem strange to think about winter storms while the sun is out in Lancashire, but for savvy homeowners, this is the most critical window for property maintenance.

At Three Weave, we believe in Aerial Intelligence—getting the facts before they become emergencies. Here is why May and June are the "Golden Months" for a roof inspection:

✅ The Roofer’s Window: Reputable roofing contractors are in high demand. By identifying issues now, you have a 4-month window to get professional repairs booked and completed during the long, dry summer days.

✅ Cost Control: Repairs done in summer are often cheaper and safer than emergency call-outs in a gale. You avoid the "emergency premium" and the stress of a leaking ceiling.

✅ Verifiable Condition: Many issues, like hairline mortar cracks or minor slate shifts, are much easier to identify and document in clear, bright summer light.

✅ Peace of Mind: When the first "Great British Autumn" storm hits, you won't be lying awake wondering if that loose tile is still holding. You’ll have the photographic proof that your home is ready.

Don't wait for the weather to turn.
Our drone inspections provide a comprehensive health check of your entire roofline, chimneys, and gutters in minutes—no scaffolding, no ladders, and no guesswork.

Get the intelligence you need to enjoy your summer, knowing your home is winter-proof.

🐌 THE SECRET SIGN YOUR ROOF IS TOO WET
At first glance, you might think those silver loopy lines are cracks in the roof. But look closer—those are actually slug trails! While it’s a bit of a "gross" discovery, it’s a massive clue for us at Three Weave during a drone inspection.

🔎 The Aerial Breakdown:
When we see these trails on a GRP (fiberglass) flat roof, it tells us a story about the drainage:

The Buffet: Slugs only climb this high for one thing: Algae. Algae only grows where water sits for long periods.

The Proof of Ponding: The trails are concentrated around the dark, stained areas. This confirms that water is "pooling" here rather than running off to the gutters.

The Waterfall Effect: Notice the downpipe discharging directly onto this spot? It's providing a constant water source that keeps this "slug buffet" open for business 24/7.

🚁 The Three Weave Advantage:
From the ground, you might never notice these silver tracks. From the air, they are a flashing red light that your roof's "fall" (the slope) might be off, or that a simple downpipe diversion could save your roof from long-term moisture damage.

We don't do the repairs—we just find the evidence so you can act before the algae turns into a leak.

Is your roof hosting a slug party? It might be time to check your drainage. 🌧️

The invisible decay threatening the North West’s iconic detached properties. 🏠🔬

If you own a traditional detached home or period property in Lancashire or across the North West, your roofline defines its character. But up close, that character can hide a serious vulnerability: Advanced Spalling.

We captured this high-resolution angle (taken directly from overhead) during a recent structural inspection.

Look closely at the Ridge Tiles (the tiles at the very peak of the apex):

❌ Active Spalling: The fabric of these stone/clay ridges is literally crumbling and delaminating. This is caused by decades of absorption of coastal rain and intense freeze-thaw cycles.

❌ Structural Weakness: As the spalling accelerates, the tiles become brittle, the mortar bond is lost, and they are no longer forming a sound, interlocking seal at the highest point of the roof.

What happens next?

In the North West, our ridges take a beating. Water gets into these stone pores, freezes and expands - causing the faces to literally crumble away (spalling).

Decay at the ridge is a direct path for water ingress. On a detached property exposed to North West winds, rain is driven under these failing ridges, compromising your roof timbers and attic insulation long before you see a stain on your ceiling.

Peace of mind from above.
From a driveway or garden, even with binoculars, this type of surface decay and material loss is all but invisible. Don’t guess the condition of your home’s highest point.

At Three Weave, we provide independent, factual, and high-resolution Aerial Intelligence. We give you the clear evidence you need to catch this decay early, allowing you to arrange maintenance, preventing costly emergency repairs later.

Character or Concern? Understanding biological growth on your roof. 🏠🌿

If you own a property with a natural slate roof in Lancashire, you’ll be familiar with the gradual appearance of moss, lichen, and "staining." While many see this as part of a building’s character, from an aerial inspection perspective, it’s an important indicator of your roof's health.

Biological growth isn't always an immediate emergency, but it does warrant a balanced look at what’s happening on your slates.

What is it telling you?

✅ Moisture Retention: Moss and lichen act like sponges. They hold onto water long after the rain has stopped, keeping your slates damp and increasing the weight load on the roof structure.

✅ The Freeze-Thaw Cycle: In colder months, the water trapped in moss can freeze and expand. Over time, this can lead to "delamination" (the slate layers splitting) or micro-cracks in the mortar.

✅ Drainage Health: Heavy growth often sheds into your gutters. If you see moss on the ground, it’s a sign that your water management system is likely being restricted above.

A Balanced Approach:
Not every patch of lichen requires a full roof clean—in fact, aggressive cleaning can sometimes do more harm than good to old slate. The key is monitoring. Our Aerial Intelligence reports allow you to track these changes safely. We provide high-resolution visual evidence so you can see if the growth is encroaching on lead flashings, blocking valleys, or causing slates to lift.

It’s about moving from guesswork to informed maintenance. See your roof clearly, understand its condition, and protect your home’s longevity.

A morning of heritage, high-resolution detail, and high-standard music. ⛪🎼

At Three Weave, our aerial and internal intelligence work often takes us to the most beautiful and historic corners of Lancashire.

We were recently tasked with a heritage inspection inside a local church - St Thomas at Garstang. Our mission? Using specialised indoor drone technology (designed for low impact non-intrusive work), to inspect the condition of the mortar and stonework surrounding the intricate stained-glass windows at height—areas that are usually impossible to see without costly and intrusive scaffolding.

Capturing the Craftsmanship 📸
While our primary focus was structural integrity, we couldn't help but capture the incredible artistry of the windows themselves. Our high-resolution sensors allow us to document every lead line and pigment, providing the conservation team with a "digital twin" of their most precious features.

A Serendipitous Soundtrack 🎹
As we worked, the atmosphere was transformed. A local musician arrived to practice on the church organ for an upcoming recital competition. Having the soaring sound of the pipes as a backdrop while we inspected the heights of the chancel, sanctuary, and nave was a reminder of why preserving these community landmarks is so important.

Innovation meets Heritage.
Whether it’s a modern detached home or a centuries-old place of worship, we provide the clarity needed to protect the structures that matter most. We reveal the condition, document the beauty, and help plan for the future—all with minimal disruption to the daily life of the building.

A small gap today. A major repair tomorrow. 🏠⚠️

On a high or complex roofline, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a shadow and a slipped tile from the ground. But for your home, that gap represents a direct breach in its primary defence against the elements.

We captured this image during a recent inspection in Lancashire. The high-resolution detail clearly shows several tiles that have shifted out of alignment, leaving the structure beneath vulnerable.

Why a slipped tile is a risk you shouldn't ignore:

❌ Water Ingress: Tiles are designed to work as an interlocking system to shed water. When one slips, that system fails. Rainwater is channeled into the gap, where it can saturate internal structures long before a leak appears on your ceiling.

❌ Falling Hazards: A tile that has slipped is a tile that has lost its fixings. In a high-wind area like the Fylde Coast, these become significant hazards to anything—or anyone—below.

❌ The "Domino Effect": Often, one slipped tile puts extra pressure or wind-loading on its neighbours, leading to further failures across the roofline.

Get the full picture, safely.
Don't guess the condition of your roof from the driveway. Our Aerial Intelligence reports provide crystal-clear, close-up evidence of every tile. We identify these slips early, allowing you to arrange a simple maintenance fix before a storm turns a minor issue into a costly emergency.

Stay off the ladder and let us give you the "bird’s eye" proof you need for total peace of mind.

The "hidden" flat roof you probably haven't checked in years 🏠 🛰️

If your home has Dormer windows, you essentially have multiple mini flat-roofs sitting high above your head. In Lancashire, these are common features—but they are also one of the most frequent points of failure we see.

Why? Because they are invisible from the ground. We recently inspected a property with several Dormer windows (swipe to see the aerial view). From the driveway, everything looked perfect. But our high-resolution drone intelligence uncovered a different story:

❌ Standing/Pooling Water: Evidence of poor drainage that leads to membrane failure.
❌ Fabric Decay: The roof coverings were beginning to perish due to constant exposure.
❌ Deteriorating Frames: Subtle rot in the window frames that would eventually allow water into the internal walls.

Prevention is cheaper than a cure. 💸
Most Dormer issues go unnoticed until a leak appears in a bedroom ceiling. By then, you aren't just paying for a roof patch; you're paying for new plastering and redecoration, too.

Our Aerial Intelligence reports give you a bird's-eye view of these hidden areas. We identify the decay early, allowing you to plan maintenance during the dry summer months rather than dealing with an expensive emergency in the middle of a winter storm.

Think your NHBC warranty covers this ? 🌧️ 🚧

If you own a modern property in Lancashire, you might assume your gutters are "maintenance-free" for the first 5 or 10 years.

We recently took this aerial shot of a beautifully maintained house, still well within its new-build warranty. Look closely—those gutters aren't just a bit dirty; they are completely clogged with silt, soil, and debris. 🍂🛑

Summer storms are a major risk for clogged gutters.
The Met Office reports a significant increase in sudden, localized summer downpours in the UK. A single "summer deluge" can dump a huge amount of water—potentially tens of millimetres in just one hour.

When that happens, your guttering becomes the front line.
❌ Water Management Failure: Clogged gutters cannot process that volume. The water has nowhere to go but to overflow... often inside your walls or into your window frames.
❌ Render Damage: Constant overflowing stains render and accelerates brickwork erosion.
❌ Warranty Limitations: Most new-build warranties (like NHBC) do NOT cover issues resulting from poor maintenance, such as blocked gutters or drains.

The real difficulty for homeowners is simply knowing if they need cleaning. It’s impossible to check safely from the ground.

Our Aerial Intelligence reports take the guesswork out of gutter health. We don't just "check" them; we give you photographic proof of their condition, combined with a full roof assessment.

You get peace of mind knowing that when that next heavy summer storm hits, your property is ready to handle the deluge.

Out of sight, out of mind....until it isn't 🧱 ⚠️

Even on a relatively calm day in Lancashire, your chimney is hard at work.

Being the highest point of your property, it’s constantly exposed to the elements. While the average wind speeds this week are around 10–11mph, the 20mph+ gusts are what really test the integrity of your brickwork and mortar.

The problem? You can't see the wear and tear from your driveway.

In this recent inspection (swipe for the detail), our drones captured what the homeowner couldn't see:

❌ Hairline cracks in the flaunching: Even small cracks allow water to seep in. When that water freezes, it expands, turning small cracks into major structural issues.
❌ Loose Pots: Those 20mph gusts are enough to vibrate a chimney pot that is sitting in failing mortar.
❌ Biological Growth: Moss and weeds thrive in these damp, high-up spots, acting like wedges between your bricks.

Peace of mind from the air.

Don't guess the condition of your stack. Whether your chimney is active or decorative, it needs a professional eye. Three Weave provides high-resolution aerial intelligence that reveals the truth about your home’s highest point—safely, quickly, and without the need for a ladder.

Spotting these issues now means simple maintenance rather than an emergency repair later.

This "small" issue is a ticking time bomb...⏱️ 💧

We recently inspected this property. It’s less than 5 years old, yet our drones uncovered a serious problem that was invisible from the driveway.

A single missing piece of guttering (swipe to see the close-up) was causing a massive cascade of water to pour directly onto the tiles below.

The result?
❌ Biological Growth: Significant moss and algae are already taking hold in the dampest areas.
❌ Water Management Failure: The system is overwhelmed, putting the structural integrity and the render at risk.
❌ Future Costs: Left unchecked, this leads to damp, slipped tiles, and internal leaks that cost thousands to repair.

The homeowner had no idea. Why would they? From the ground, everything looked "new."

As the rain settles in this Sunday, it’s a reminder that water is a silent intruder. It only takes one small oversight during construction or one loose fitting to start a very expensive chain reaction.

Preventative maintenance is the only way to stay ahead. At Three Weave, we provide the aerial intelligence you need to spot these issues before they become emergencies. No ladders, no scaffolding—just high-resolution proof and peace of mind.

Protect your investment and your weekend.
