This is a plan however it has someway to go. People need to be seen face-to-face by people for this to work effectively. A national assessment needs to ensure it is better than the National Framework in NHS Continuing Healthcare which is far too subjective and open to interpretation by the ICBs who are the decision makers.

Adult social care is not just about older people. There are younger people with needs due to disabilities.

This part of social care is in as deep a crisis as support for older people. There are a lot of older people caring for younger people with disabilities that receive limited support from social care. The whole system needs a review.

NHS Continuing Healthcare is funding for someone who has a primary healthcare need. As the writer details in this article there needs to be good evidence in the care home records.

Sadly a lot of the time care home notes are sparse, only concentrate on the 'good things' rather than on the actual needs of the resident. Just because the needs are complex and difficult it does not mean to say that the home are not doing a good job, however that does appear to be some homes view.

If you have a CHC assessment for yourself or a loved one make sure that you have read and thought about the Decision Support Tool and the Framework Guidance. This is needed more than ever now.

There’s been a lot of discussion about how busy the NHS has been this summer.

NHS England has reported that more than 7.2 million people attended A&E across June, July and August — the busiest summer on record.

But behind statistics like these are families trying to work out what happens next when someone they care about becomes more unwell or needs more support.

And this is often where things can start to feel complicated.
A hospital visit can sometimes be the beginning of a much bigger conversation about care and support.

Does the person need more help at home?

Has their care package changed?

Do they need an assessment?

Could NHS Continuing Healthcare be relevant?

Or is it simply a case of understanding what happens next and who needs to be involved?

There isn't one answer that applies to everyone. What matters is understanding the person's individual needs and making sure the right questions are being asked.

If you're suddenly finding yourself having to navigate Social Care or NHS services for someone you care about, it can be difficult to know where to start.

You don't have to understand the whole system before asking for help.

Sometimes having someone who understands the system alongside you can make things feel a little clearer.

This is true and I agree that social care staff should be paid appropriately, however the other issue is that this type of work is being seen as normal social care work and this impacts NHS Continuing Healthcare assessments. It clearly is health work and it should not matter who is providing it, as long as they have had the training.
