This is true and I agree that social care staff should be paid appropriately, however the other issue is that this type of work is being seen as normal social care work and this impacts NHS Continuing Healthcare assessments. It clearly is health work and it should not matter who is providing it, as long as they have had the training.

93% of care workers who perform delegated healthcare activities have never received additional pay for doing so

People work hard throughout their lives paying taxes and National Insurance, then in their old age, if they are unlucky enough to require care they then have to pay for that too! These are not rich or wealthy people, but people who have saved and worked hard throughout their lives!

Increasing the Personal Expense Allowance in line with inflation is just not enough!

The government has announced that for the next financial year capital limits for care will remain at their current level

đź’¬ Important Update on NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

A new national report has found that access to NHS Continuing Healthcare funding in England is too often a “luck of the draw” — with significant regional differences in who gets approved, and many families still being denied funding they may be entitled to.

Here’s what the research highlights:
🔹 Funding decisions vary widely across areas — meaning someone’s postcode can affect whether they get CHC.
🔹 Despite total CHC spend increasing, fewer people are being deemed eligible for standard, long-term CHC support.
🔹 Some families are even taking local NHS organisations to court to secure the care funding they need.
🔹 For people who don’t get CHC, the result can be a “cliff-edge” of catastrophic care costs at a time of crisis.
🔹 Experts are calling for greater consistency and fairness in how CHC eligibility is assessed.

⚠️ If you or someone you care for is struggling with the CHC assessment process, you’re not alone. These are systemic issues affecting families across England right now.

👉 That’s exactly why we’re here at Care or Not Ltd — to help you understand your rights, prepare for assessments, and get the funding support you or your loved one should be accessing.

Flu is currently an issue for the NHS with above average hospital admissions. Next we will have the junior doctors strike. If you know of an elderly or vulnerable person please check on them over this festive period.

Responding to winter data from NHS England, Royal College of Nursing general secretary and chief executive Professor Nicola Ranger, said: “These figures show just how dangerous the situation is getting"

It may not have been necessary for this lady to have been moved to a new care home. An assessment by social services should have been undertaken, which should have included the impact of moving this elderly vulnerable lady from the home, to a home she did not know and with carers she did not know. It is not just about the cost of the care home, if you have concerns like this, please contact us on 01752 905031.

What are Direct Payments?âť“

Direct Payments are a way of receiving social care funding from social services in the UK. This funding is intended to help individuals who have a disability, a long-term illness, or who are elderly, to arrange their own care and support. Direct Payments can be used to pay for a range of services, including personal care, support with daily living tasks, and support with accessing the community.

Direct Payments give individuals more control over their care and support, allowing them to choose the services that best meet their needs. This can include choosing the times and frequency of support, as well as the care provider.

If you’re looking for more control over your care and support, direct payments could be the solution you need. With direct payments, you receive a cash sum from your local authority to pay for your care needs, giving you greater flexibility and choice in how you receive support.

Our team is here to guide you through the process of applying for direct payments and help you understand your eligibility and responsibilities, and making sure that the budget assessed by Social Care is an appropriate one to meet your needs.

Give us a call on 01752 905033 if you have any questions. We offer a half an hour free consultation.

Take control of your care with our comprehensive guide to Direct Payments. Our team of healthcare experts provides information on the eligibility criteria, application process, and managing your own care with direct payments in the uk.
