We are a society based at Lady Margaret Hall, created in memory of our namesake alum, Tim Hetherington (1989). Tim was an incredible photojournalist and human rights advocate who died whilst covering the Libyan civil war in 2011.

The society was set up to commemorate and celebrate Tim's work and to help cultivate the next generation of photojournalists and advocates. It was created to inspire and encourage individuals to embark on projects that advance the ideals that Tim valued dearly, with a focus on social and humanitarian issues.

We are currently recruiting a committee who will work to advance and achieve the aforementioned goals of the society. If the above is something you really care about and if you are interested in journalism, photography, or human rights, and want to be involved, please message the page or Zahra Farzanekhoo.

And to all those following this page, keep your eyes peeled for events and projects we are excited to organise.

No need to print off tickets tonight, just say your name (or the name of the person who's ticket you're taking) and we'll tick you off! If you didn't manage to reserve a ticket in time, please feel free to turn up, and we'll see if we can fit you in before the event starts.

We're looking forward to seeing you all tonight at 7pm - remember there will be a free drinks (wine/juice) reception available next door in the Monson Room after the event where you can ask Janine any questions you may have!

Saeed Taji Farouky is a very talented filmmaker who opened our film festival 5 years after Tim's death. For those of you who did not manage to catch our screening, "Tell Spring Not to Come This Year" is a powerful and touching insight into the conflict in Afghanistan through the eyes of those who live it.

Not to be missed, and available on UK Netflix from the 1st of August!

Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of the blast in Libya that took the life of Tim and another gifted journalist, Chris Hondros.

The date was marked by the British Journal of Photography with this article, featuring some of Tim's most iconic work.
http://www.bjp-online.com/2016/04/remembering-tim-hetherington-four-years-on/

The film begins with Tim Hetherington trying to describe why he risks his life to tell stories from some of the world’s most dangerous regions. Eventually, he finds the right words: “I want to connect with real people, to document them in real circumstances, where there aren’t any neat solutions.”

This year's festival helped raise over £200 for Tim's Trust- thank you so much to everybody who donated! We hope you all enjoyed the events as much as we did. Be sure to follow on Twitter for future updates.

If you would be interested in getting involved with the society yourself in the future, including organising screenings, discussion panels and Q&As from award-winning directors, please get in touch! As our current exec are finalists, we are more than happy to answer any questions from those of you interested in getting involved in the future.

Due to some last-minute cancellations, we have a handful of seats left for our screening of Maidan tonight. The penultimate event of the festival sees LMH alumna and BBC correspondent Bridget Kendall, Economist correspondent Tim Judah and photojournalist Ben Robinson.

The follow explores and follows the protests and violence in Kiev's Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) which lead to the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych. It will be followed by a discussion panel.
