Are you ready for Paris 2024? I certainly am, having worked on translation assignments building up to this event for the last six years...

In this piece, I explore the surprising number of ways in which specialist professional translators (including Crossbow Translations, of course!) have contributed to preparations for the Games.

Thank you to Institute of Translation and Interpreting for inviting me to showcase our work in this area! 🥇

From competitive tenders and site inspection reports to event previews, you'll be amazed at the range of materials that need translating before the games even get started.

🏏🏏🏏Dedication to my sports translation specialism sometimes extends to customising my stationery (see pic below). And I might just be a *bit* excited about the second Ashes Test.

Although requests for French- or Spanish-into-English cricket translations are as rare as a full day's sunshine over Old Trafford, I've been wondering for a while how some of cricket's more "eccentric" terminology can possibly be translated into languages other than English.

The next time you're attempting to explain or translate terms like "silly mid-off" in French, machine translation like Google Translate isn't going to cut it ("idiot à mi-chemin", anyone?).

Instead, France Cricket's detailed glossary (https://www.francecricket.com/include/doc/competition/Glossaire.pdf) might be a useful starting point.*

Enjoy the Test wherever you're watching and go well, England!🏏🏏🏏

*They translate "silly mid-off" as "relais ouvert", in case you were wondering.

For those just starting out in translation (or anyone who's interested in finding out more about what's involved)

Just because you’re at home in your office, it doesn’t mean you can’t build up a big online network. In a recent YouTube interview, I mentioned how I started out by thinking that other translators wouldn’t want to get to know me because they'd see me as a competitor for translation jobs. Tha...

Last year, I gained Qualified MITI status from Institute of Translation and Interpreting. I was pleased to contribute to this article about what it means for me and my clients.

I appreciate being part of an institution that brings together many outstanding professionals in the translation arena. I have not yet utilised my ITI membership to its full potential – partly because Turkish is not among the major languages.

If you're looking for a legal translator, it's important to find someone you can trust.

I'm always happy to share feedback from previous clients so that you don't just have to take my word for it.

On that note, I received this lovely testimonial yesterday for a recent Spanish-English legal translation 😀

I had the pleasure of co-presenting this webinar on sports translation and interpreting for members of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting yesterday. It was a lot of fun to share experiences with other professionals working in this area and the enthusiastic feedback is a joy to read!
