If you lose mental capacity without a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, your family may not automatically be able to step in and make decisions for you.

In some situations, they may need to apply to the Court of Protection before they can act on your behalf.

An LPA lets you choose who you would want to support you with certain decisions if that help is ever needed.

A Will should reflect your current circumstances, not just the life you had when it was first written.

Marriage, moving home, changes within the family or welcoming a new grandchild can all be good reasons to review what you already have in place.

A review does not necessarily mean everything needs changing.

Sometimes it is simply about checking that your Will still reflects what you want.

They may have spoken about it at home.

They may assume everyone understands their wishes.

But having those conversations is not the same as putting a Will in place.
