🇪🇸 Five things I really wish someone had told me when I first moved to Spain 👇 (drop your own in the comments — let's help the newcomers!)
1️⃣ The padrón comes first. That little town-hall registration quietly unlocks almost everything else — NIE appointments, healthcare, school places. Sort it early.
2️⃣ Your NIE is forever. It never changes and you'll need it for everything — bank, bills, car, taxes. Keep that green paper safe (and scan it!).
3️⃣ Always bring copies. Then bring more copies. Original + photocopy of everything, every time. The one day you don't is the day they ask. 😅
4️⃣ "Cita previa" = the appointment — and they vanish in seconds. Book early, check different offices, and try first thing in the morning when new slots drop.
5️⃣ You don't need fluent Spanish to get it done. You just need the right help and a bit of patience. Thousands of us have muddled through — you will too. 💛
If you're in the thick of it right now and feeling buried, you're so welcome to message me — I help English-speaking expats untangle Spanish paperwork in plain English, and I always reply within a day.
